2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH)
 

  • As of 01 May 2020, the population Oriental Mindoro was 908,339 based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH).
  • The total population of Oriental Mindoro was over 28 percent of MIMAROPA’s population in 2020.

  • The 2020 population of the province increased by 1.56 percent annually, on average, during the period of 2015 to 2020. By comparison, the rate at which the province’s population grew during the period of 2010 to 2015 was lower at 1.38 percent. (Table 2)

  • About one hundred thousand people have been added to the province’s population since 2000.
  • With a total land area of approximately 4,238.38 square kilometers, the population density of Oriental Mindoro in 2020 was posted at 214 persons per square kilometer. This represents an increase of 15 persons per square kilometer from the population density of 199 persons per square kilometer in 2015. (Table 3)

  • Among the fourteen municipalities and one city comprising the province, Calapan City had the biggest population in 2020 with 145,786, followed by Naujan with 109,587, and Pinamalayan with 90,383.
  • The least populated municipality is San Teodoro with 19,121 followed by Pola with 35,455 and Baco with 39,817. (Table 4)

  • The population residing in Calapan City, Naujan and Pinamalayan combined comprises 38.06 percent of the total population of Oriental Mindoro. This means that four in ten persons in the province reside in Calapan City, Naujan and Pinamalayan.
  • Puerto Galera was the fastest growing municipality in the province with an average annual population growth rate (PGR) of 2.91 percent. It was followed by Bulalacao (2.69%), and Gloria (2.42%). Municipalities with PGRs below 1 percent were Bansud (0.85%), Victoria (0.69%) and Pola which posted the lowest municipal growth rate in the province at 0.45 percent. (Table 5)

  • Of the province’ 426 barangays, Panaytayan in Mansalay was the most populous with 12,010 persons, followed by B. del Mundo in Masalay (8,278), and San Roque in Bulalacao (7,535). Seventeen other barangays surpassed the five thousand mark in 2020. (Table 6)
  • San Andres in Baco, was the smallest barangay in terms of population with 321 persons. The other barangays that posted a population size of less than 400 are Zone I in Pola (346) and San Vicente Central in Calapan City (371). (Table 7)
