Marinduque 2021 Birth Statistics (Preliminary)

 

Explanatory Note

Data presented in this Special Release were obtained from the timely and delayed registered births at the Office of the Municipal Civil Registrars throughout the province and submitted to the Office of the Civil Registrar-General through the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Provincial Statistical Office (PSO) for encoding. Information presented includes the births that occurred from January to December 2020 and 2021 (cut-off date is as of 31 January 2021). Figures presented herein are still preliminary and may differ from the final counts.

Marinduques’ birth registration decreased in 2021

A decrease of 3.22 percent on birth registration was recorded in 2021. The number of birth registration from January to December 2021 was 3,404 which is lesser compared from 3,415 of 2020, shown in Fig. 1.

The fourth quarter of 2021 registered 1,020 live births, an increase of 13 percent as compared to the number of births registered in the same period of 2020, which is 903 only, as shown in Fig. 2.

For the first semester of 2021, the total registered births timely and delayed reached 1,636, while for the second semester, 1,768 were recorded. Marinduque had 2,262 timely birth registration, which covers 66 percent of the total birth registration of the province, as shown in Table 1.

Most registered births occur in municipalities with government hospitals in the province, such as in Boac, Santa Cruz and Torrijos, where in Marinduque Provincial Hospital and two district hospitals are located. Among the six municipalities, Boac registered the most, with 1,891 live birth registration, almost 56 percent of the total birth registration of the province, while Mogpog had the least number of registrations, with 43 live births, shown in Fig. 3.

As shown in Fig. 4, as of September 2021, most births in Marinduque took place in hospitals or Rural Health Unit birthing facilities, attended by doctors, nurses and midwives. Some Marinduqueños, however, still chose the traditional way of giving birth in their own houses. It is commonly attended by the “mang-hihilot” and in some cases a midwife. For others, the child was born in a vehicle and was attended by the father, grandmother or driver of the vehicle.

  • Live Birth is a complete expulsion or extraction from its mother of a product of conception, irrespective of the duration of the pregnancy, which after such separation, breathes or shows any other evidence of life, such as beating of the heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord, or definite movement of voluntary muscles, whether or not the umbilical cord has been cut or the placenta is attached- each product of such a birth is considered liveborn.

  • Timely Registration the birth of a child shall be registered within thirty (30) days from the time of birth at the Local Civil Registry Office of the city/municipality where the birth occurred.

  • Delayed Registration is an act of registering a vital event that is made beyond the reglementary period of registration.
