Summary Inflation Report Consumer Price Index (2012=100): July 2021

The data presented herein are based on the results of the 2012-based Consumer Price Survey for all income households conducted in Oriental Mindoro during the month.

Inflation rate at the national level slowed down further to 4.0 percent in July 2021, from 4.1 percent in June 2021. This gives the country’s year-to-date inflation from January to July 2021 at 4.4 percent. Inflation in July 2020 was posted at 2.7 percent.

The downward trend of the July 2021 inflation could be attributed to the lower annual increment registered in the transport index at 7.0 percent, from 9.6 percent in the previous month.  The following commodity groups also contributed to the downward trend in the overall inflation where slower annual increases were recorded in the indices.

  • Alcoholic beverages and tobacco, 10.2 percent;
  • Furnishing, household equipment and routine household maintenance, 2.3 percent; and
  • Restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services, 3.6 percent.

In addition, annual rate of recreation and culture index dropped further to -0.7 percent during the month, from -0.6 percent in the previous month.

On the other hand, inflation rates were higher in the indices of the following commodity groups:

  • Food and non-alcoholic beverages, 4.9 percent;
  • Clothing and footwear, 1.7 percent;
  • Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, 2.6 percent;
  • Health, 3.1 percent; and
  • Communication, 0.3 percent.

 

Oriental Mindoro

Annual rate of inflation in Oriental Mindoro for July 2021 was measured at a higher rate of 5.6 percent compared to an inflation rate of 4.6 percent in June 2021. Inflation rate of Oriental Mindoro in July 2020 was lower at 2.5 percent (See Figure 1).

By major commodity group, annual inflation rates in July 2021 in the province of Oriental Mindoro are as follows: food and non-alcoholic beverages, 8.0 percent; alcoholic beverages and tobacco, 6.2 percent; clothing and footwear, 2.9 percent; Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, -2.4 percent; furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house, 1.1 percent; health, 4.3 percent; transport, 13.9 percent; communication, 0.3 percent; recreation and culture, 4.2 percent; education, 4.2 percent; and restaurants, miscellaneous goods and services, 1.9 percent.

Month-on-month change in consumer price index (CPI) in Oriental Mindoro slightly increased at 0.2 percent in July 2021. Similarly, the month-on-month change in CPI at the national level measured an increment at 0.4 percent. The month-on-month change in CPI in the MIMAROPA region, however, saw a drop of 0.5 percent in July 2021.
