Total employment went up by 10.5 percent
The 2023 List of Establishments (LE) results showed a total employment of 18,199 workers across all the 4,607 establishments in operation within Occidental Mindoro. The total employment went up 10.5 percent from 16,476 workers from all establishments in operation reported from the previous year.

Three in every five workers were employed under the services sector
By broad industry group, the services sector remained as the top employment hub, covering 13,619 workers or 74.8 percent share to the province’s total employment in 2023. In addition, the industry sector employed a total of 3,011 or 16.5 percent share. Meanwhile, the agriculture, forestry and fishing sector had 1,569 workers or 8.6 percent share. (Figure 2)

Wholesale and Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles employed the highest number of workers
In 2023, Wholesale and Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles posted the highest number of 7,633 workers among 18 industry sections. This translates to 41.9 percent share of the provincial total employment. This was followed by the total employment in Manufacturing with 2,324 workers (12.8% share), Accommodation and Food Service Activities with 1,947 workers (10.7% share), Financial and Insurance Activities with 1,670 workers (9.2% share), and Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing with 1,569 workers (8.6% share). Meanwhile, the least number of employed workers among industry sections in 2023 was from Construction establishments with only 35 workers (0.2% share). This was followed by establishments under Mining and Quarrying with 36 workers (0.2% share), Real Estate Activities with 51 workers (0.3% share), and Information and Communication with 91 workers (0.5% share). Furthermore, a total of 149 workers (0.8% share) were employed in the Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities establishments, which is the same with Water Supply; Sewerage, Waste Management and Remediation Activities. Micro establishments employed the highest number of workers
In 2023, Occidental Mindoro had 4,355 micro establishments in operation, comprising 94.5 percent of the provincial total. This translates to a total of 11,164 workers covered under micro establishments that accounts to 61.3 percent share to the total workers in the province. This was followed by small and large establishments with 4,930 workers (27.1% share) and 1,363 workers (7.5% share), respectively. Medium establishments hired the least number of 742 workers (4.1% share). (Figure 4)

Business closures in affected 674 establishments translated to 1,755 job losses
Of the 674 establishments with permanently closed and temporarily stopped operation status leads to 1,775 jobs lost in Marinduque in 2023. A total of 1,504 job losses (84.7% share) is affected by permanent business closure and 271 job losses (15.3% share) from establishments with temporary stopped operations. The breakdown of employment losses by year shows that 25 jobs (1.7%) were lost before the year 2021. About 685 jobs out of 1,504 or 45.5 percent were lost in establishments closed in 2021. In addition, 531 jobs (35.3%) were lost in 2022, and
263 jobs (17.5%) were lost in 2023. (Figure 5)
