Registered Marriages in City of Calapan, 2022 (First Issue)
Registered marriages in City of Calapan increase in 2022
In 2022, a total of 625 marriages were registered, an increase of 36.2 percent from the total registered marriages of 459 in 2021. Comparing with the number before the pandemic, an increase of 9.3 percent was observed from 2019 to 2022.
Most marriages occurred in March
In 2022, the month March recorded the highest number of registered marriages with 116 or 18.6 percent share of the total marriages in City of Calapan. The month of April ranked second with 61 or 9.8 percent share, followed by the month of December with 60 or 9.6 percent share. On the other hand, the month of August had the least number of registered marriages with 17 or 2.7 percent share.
Couples in Calapan City preferred to be married in Civil Ceremony
In 2022, a significant majority of registered marriages, accounting for 42.6 percent or 266 unions, were conducted as civil ceremonies. In contrast, only 39.4 percent of the total marriages, representing 246 couples, chose to have their ceremonies officiated in Roman Catholic churches. Additionally, 17.8 percent, which corresponds to 111 marriages, were celebrated through various other religious rites. While Muslim marriages comprised a small fraction, accounting for 0.3 percent, or 2 of the total registered marriages. (Figure 3)
Majority of Couples Married Between Ages 25-29
In 2022, a significant number of couples in the City of Calapan tied the knot between the ages of 25 and 29. Approximately 243 men (or 38.8 percent) and 274 women (or 43.8 percent) married within this age range, making it the most common period for marriage among both genders.
The median age at which individuals married in 2022 was 28 years for males and 26 years for females. This suggests that many couples chose to marry in their late twenties.
Females Marry at Younger Age than Males
In City of Calapan, young women are more likely to marry at an earlier age compared to men. A total of 24 marriages, or 3.8 percent, involved adolescent females aged 15-19, while only 4 marriages, or 0.6 percent, involved adolescent males in the same age group.
Marriages in Calapan City were timely registered
In the City of Calapan, a total of 615 marriages were registered promptly, resulting in an impressive timely registration rate of 98.4 percent. In contrast, only 10 marriages were registered late, highlighting that nearly all marriages were documented within the required timeframe.

TECHNICAL NOTES
Marriages that require the issuance of marriages license shall be reported to C/MCR for registration not later than fifteen (15) days from date of marriage. However, marriages that do not require a license such as marriage at the point of death (Article 27); marriages in remote places (Article 28); marriages between members of ethnic cultural community (Article 33); and marriages between men and women who have lived together for at least five (5) years (Article 34), shall be reported not later than thirty (30) day after date of marriage.
Marriage is a special contract of permanent union between a man and a woman entered into in accordance with law for the establishment of conjugal and family life.
Any report made to the LCROs beyond the reglementary period are considered late and can be entered only in the civil register after the informant complies with the requirements for delayed registration.
