Explanatory Notes The data on the number of births, marriages and deaths (vital events) presented in this special release were obtained from the vital events registered either timely or belatedly, at the appropriate Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrar throughout the country and subsequently submitted for encoding to the Office of the Civil Registrar General through the Provincial Statistical Offices (PSOs) of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). The information presented includes provisional vital events that occurred from July to September 2023 based on the data files received by the PSA – Civil Registration Service (CRS) from the PSOs and has undergone initial processing as of 31 July 2024. Thus, the figures presented herein are still preliminary and may differ from the final count. The vital events of Filipinos abroad are not yet included in this release, but Filipino whose usual residence is abroad and foreign national with vital events occurring in the country during the refence period were included in this report. |
Number of registered births decreases by 1.4 percent
In the third quarter of 2023, there were 10,682 live births registered in the MIMAROPA Region. This figure exhibited a decrease of 1.4 percent compared to the reported 10,832 live birth registrations during the same quarter of 2022. (Table A and Figure 1)
Among provinces in the region, Oriental Mindoro posted the highest number of registered live births during the third quarter of 2023 at 3,216. This translates to a 30.1 percent share to the total number of registered live births in the region. Palawan (excluding the City of Puerto Princesa) came next with a total of 3,095 registered live births (29.0%). Meanwhile, Marinduque had the lowest number of registered live births with 689 (6.5%). (Figure 1 and Figure 2)
Relative to the provincial number of live birth registration in the third quarter of 2022, three provinces contributed to the decrease in the number of live births. Occidental Mindoro had the largest decline of 12.8 percent from 2,039 registered live births during the third quarter of 2022 to 1,779 registered live births in the same quarter of 2023. This was followed by a decline of 145 live births in Marinduque (17.4% decline) and 63 live births decline in Oriental Mindoro (1.9% decline). (Figure 2)
Number of registered marriages decreases by 12.5 percent
The number of registered marriages reported during the third quarter of 2023 in the MIMAROPA Region reached 2,192. This was lower by 314 registered marriages or an annual decrease of 12.5 percent from 2,506 marriages that were reported during the same quarter of 2022. (Table B and Figure 3)
Among provinces in the region, Palawan (excluding the City of Puerto Princesa) posted the highest number of registered marriages during the third quarter of 2023 at 714. This translates to a 32.6 percent share to the total number of registered live births in the region. Oriental Mindoro closely followed with a total of 702 registered marriages (32.0%). Meanwhile, Marinduque had the lowest number with 131 registered marriages (6.0%). (Figure 4)
It can be noted that three provinces and one highly urbanized city contributed to the decrease in the region’s number of registered marriages. Palawan posted the largest decrement of 220 marriages or 23.6 percent from 934 registered marriages during the third quarter of 2022 to 714 registered marriages in the same quarter of 2023. This was followed by Romblon with a decrease of 96 marriages (37.7% decline), City of Puerto Princesa with a reduction of 55 marriages (17.8% decline), and Marinduque with a decrease of 3 marriages (2.2% decline). (Figure 4)
Number of registered deaths decreases by 3.7 percent
The number of registered marriages reported during the third quarter of 2023 in the MIMAROPA Region reached 4,657. This was lower by 180 registered deaths or an annual decrease of 3.7 percent from the reported 4,837 deaths registered during the same quarter of 2022. (Table C and Figure 5)
Among provinces in the region, Oriental Mindoro posted the highest number of registered deaths during the third quarter of 2023 at 1,334. This translates to a 28.6 percent share to the total number of registered deaths in the region. Palawan (excluding the City of Puerto Princesa) closely followed with a total of 1,174 registered deaths (25.2%). Meanwhile, Marinduque had the lowest number with 447 registered deaths (9.6%). (Figure 6)
Three provinces contributed to the decrease in the region’s number of registered deaths. Occidental Mindoro posted the largest decrement of 133 deaths or 15.5 percent from 857 registered deaths during the third quarter of 2022 to 724 registered deaths in the same quarter of 2023. This was followed by Oriental Mindoro with a reduction of 132 deaths (9.0% decline), and Romblon with a decrease of 13 deaths (2.4% decline). (Figure 6)
