TORRIJOS, MARINDUQUE– Twenty-two beneficiaries in the Municipality of Torrijos finally received their copies of Certificates of Live Birth in Security Paper (SECPA) under the Birth Registration Assistance Project (BRAP).
On April 1, 2024, PSA-Marinduque PSO, together with the Regional Statistical Services Office-MIMAROPA and the LGU of Torrijos, successfully issued Certificates of Live Birth to twenty-two BRAP beneficiaries. The awarding events took place in Torrijos' three barangays: Sibuyao, Maranlig, and Dampulan. PSA-RSSO MIMAROPA RD Leni R. Rioflorido, PSA-Marinduque CSS Gemma N. Opis, and Torrijos MCR Ronan L. Regio were present in the three events to personally hand over the much-anticipated documents. Punong Barangays and other barangay officials from the aforementioned barangays were also present during the ceremony.
Sergio Linga Fidelino (in the middle), 75 years old, and resident of Barangay Sibuyao, Torrijos, is one of the senior citizens who received his PSA-issued Birth Certificate. He was grateful and joyful at the same time because he has finally secured a copy of his Birth Certificate and he can now use this certificate to avail social benefits of the government.
Started in 2022, one of the major programs of the PSA is the implementation of the PhilSys Birth Registration Assistance Project in the country. This project aims to increase the level of civil registration especially in marginalized communities such as those belonging to the Indigenous Peoples, Muslim Filipinos, and the poorest sector in the country and ensuring that they have their PhilIDs issued which is a gateway for them to claim their social benefits and legal identities.
