25 March 2024. ROMBLON, ROMBLON. To prepare for the implementation of the First Quarter 2024 Cereals Surveys, which include the Palay and the Corn Production Surveys (PCPS), as well as the monthly Rice and Corn Stocks Surveys for both Commercial and Household Surveys (RCSS:C and RCSS:H), PSA Romblon conducts the Third Level Training on 2024 Cereals and Stocks Surveys from March 26-28, 2024, at the Multi-purpose Room of PSA Romblon Provincial Statistical Office. The training, overseen by Statistical Analyst Joy Florence M. Motin (Provincial Focal) and Supervising Statistical Specialist Dandy H. Fetalvero (Assistant Provincial Focal), include eight Statistical Researchers (SRs).
The data collection phase for the PCPS, RCSS:H and RCSS:C is scheduled for 10 days, covering Saturdays but excluding Sundays and holidays. Enumeration is set to commence on April 1, 2024, and anticipated to conclude by April 10, 2024. For the said enumeration period, SRs shall gather data using Computer-Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI). It is an interviewing technique in which the interviewer uses a tablet to record responses.
The primary objective of the PCPS surveys is to gather information on palay and corn production, area, and yield by crop type. Data collection also aims to know the usage of fertilizers, chemicals and seeds, disposition and utilization of production, and breeding method that would be useful to policy makers, particularly the Department of Agriculture, Local Government Units, researchers, and the public.
Meanwhile for the RCSS:C and RCSS:H surveys aim to generate rice and corn stocks inventories held by sample households and the commercial sector at the national and regional levels and assess the stocks levels compared with the same period in the previous year, and the previous month. A total of 282 sample households for the PPS, 160 samples for CPS, 114 samples for RCSS:H and 25 establishments for RCSS:C all around the province of Romblon shall be enumerated in mentioned period.
PSA Romblon enjoins the support of the public, especially the sample households, by providing the required information to authorize PSA field personnel during interviews. PSA assures that all the collected information shall be used for statistical purposes only and data collected shall be treated with utmost confidentiality. The PSA's authority and mandate to carry out activities related to the above surveys are in accordance with Section 5 of Republic Act 10625, also known as the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013.
