Romblon’s population recorded at 302,824

The population of Romblon as of July 1, 2024 was 302,824 persons. This population count is based on the 2024 Census of Population (2024 POPCEN).

This count has been declared official for all purposes by the President of the Philippines through Proclamation No. 973 dated 11 July 2025, pursuant to Republic Act No. 10625, or the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013, and Executive Order No. 87, s. 2025. These mandate the conduct of periodic censuses to provide government planners, policymakers, and administrators with essential data for crafting social and economic development plans and programs.

This provincial population figure reflects the total number of persons living in the 17 municipalities of the province as of 12:01 AM on 01 July 2024. It also includes Filipinos in Philippine embassies, consulates, and missions abroad.

The population in 2024 is lower by 6,161 compared with the population in 2020, and higher by 10,043 compared with the population in 2015. Table 1 shows the comparative results of the population in the past 4 censuses.

The province’s population declined by -0.48 percent

The population growth rate declined by -0.48 percent annually from 2020 to 2024. The rate at which the population grew from 2015 to 2020 is at 1.14 percent. The decline in the growth rate maybe driven by interrelated factors such as but not limited to declining fertility and birth rate, elevated mortality during the pandemic and migration activity after the pandemic.

Sixteen in every one hundred Romblomanon resides in Odiongan

Romblon province comprises 17 municipalities. In 2024, the municipality of Odiongan recorded the highest population at 48,133, accounting for 15.9 percent of the provincial total. It was followed by the municipalities of Romblon with 39,004 residents (12.9%) and San Agustin with 23,698 residents (7.8%). Collectively, these three municipalities comprised approximately 36.6 percent of Romblon’s total population (Figure 1 and Table 3). Ranking fourth and fifth in terms of population were the municipalities of San Fernando (23,660) and Cajidiocan (23,488), respectively.

The municipality of Concepcion was the smallest municipality, in terms of population size, with 3,427 persons. It was followed by the municipality of Banton with 5,848 persons. Their population represents 1.1 percent and 1.9 percent, respectively.

Out of the seventeen municipalities in the province, only four had a positive annual population growth rate (APGR). The municipality of San Andres had the highest growth rate with 0.61 percent. It was followed by Banton (0.46 percent), Cajidiocan (0.24 percent) and Looc (0.18 percent). The rest exhibited decline population growth rate.

Barangay Taclobo in San Fernando was the largest barangay

There are 219 barangays in the province. The largest barangay in terms of population size was Taclobo in the municipality of San Fernando with 5,468 persons. It was followed by Capaclan in the municipality of Romblon with 4,267 persons, and Poblacion in the municipality of San Jose with 4,186 persons.

Table 4 shows that there are seven other barangays that posted population of more than three thousand persons in 2020. It includes barangays Dapawan, Odiongan (3,911), Poblacion, Looc (3,529), Tampayan, Magdiwang (3,462), Pato-o, Odiongan (3,394), Danao, Cajidiocan (3,199), Gabawan, Odiongan (3,129) and Budiong, Odiongan (3,027).

Meanwhile, Lagang in the municipality of Banton was the smallest barangay in terms of population size with only 102 persons. It was followed by the barangays of Nabalay, Banton (168), Masadya, Concepcion (172), San Vicente, Concepcion (188), Toctoc, Banton (189), Libtong, Banton (214), Togbongan, Banton (215), Hambi-an, Banton (251), Dalajican, Concepcion (269), and Masudsud, Concepcion (278).
