Tagalog is the language generally spoken in 10,361 households in Roxas, Oriental Mindoro

Based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH), Tagalog is spoken in 10,361 households or 76.4 percent of the 13,564 households in the municipality. Bisaya/Binisaya was the second most generally spoken language at home with 2,312 households or 17.0 percent, followed by Mangyan-Buhid with 469 households or 3.5 percent. (Figure 1)

 

 

Other languages/dialects such as Mangyan-Hanunuo, Batangan, Ilocano, Romblomanon/Ini, American/English, Cebuano, and Hiligaynon/Ilonggo were generally spoken in 390 households or 2.9 percent of the total households in the municipality. (Table 1)

 

 

Predominantly Tagalog-Speaking Barangay: Barangay Libertad…

Of the 20 barangays in the municipality of Roxas, Oriental Mindoro, barangay Libertad was the most homogeneous in terms of language/dialect spoken by their households, with nearly all households generally speaking Tagalog at home (99.6 percent). Barangay San Miguel followed with 98.8 percent. Meanwhile, barangay Victoria had only 98.4 percent of its households with Tagalog as the top language spoken at home. (Table 2)

As for the second language/dialect spoken at home, Bisaya/Binisaya was reported to be highest in the barangay of San Jose with 48.1 percent. (Table 2)

The third language/dialect spoken at home was also Bisaya/Binisaya. This was reported to be the highest in barangay San Vicente with 23.6 percent. (Table 2)

 

 

Other foreign languages apart from American English and Chinese are the primary foreign languages spoken at home by Roxas, Oriental Mindoro residents who converse in a foreign language

In 2020, there were 35 households in Roxas, Oriental Mindoro who generally speak in a foreign language at home. This constituted 0.3 percent of the municipality’s total number of households not enumerated as homeless during the time of the census. Other foreign languages apart from American English and Chinese ranked first with 26 households as the language they generally spoke at home and had 74.3 percent share among those households in the province who can converse using a foreign language at home. This was followed by American English with seven households or 20.0 percent and Chinese with two households or 5.7 percent. (Table 3)

It provides a measure of the linguistic homogeneity or difference in the population. Specifically, it measures the extent of the actual use of a language/dialect within a household.
