Language/Dialects Spoken in San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro
(2020 Census of Population and Housing)
Tagalog is the language generally spoken in 4,073 households in San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro
Based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH), Tagalog is spoken in 4,073 households or 90.3 percent of the 4,511 households in the municipality. Mangyan-Iraya was the second most generally spoken language at home with 393 households or 8.7 percent, followed by Mangyan-Hanunuo with 31 households or 0.7 percent. (Figure 1)
Other languages/dialects such as T’Duray/Teduray, T’Boli/Tboli, American/English, Mangyan-Alangan, Bisaya/Binisaya, Maranao, and Batangan were generally spoken in 12 households or 0.3 percent of the total households in the municipality. (Table 1)
Predominantly Tagalog-Speaking Barangay: Barangay Tacligan…
Of the eight barangays in the municipality of San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro, Barangay Tacligan was the most homogeneous in terms of language/dialect spoken by their households, with nearly all households generally speaking Tagalog at home (99.7 percent). Barangay Calsapa followed with 98.4 percent. Meanwhile, Barangay Caagutayan had only 60.6 percent of its households with Tagalog as the top language spoken at home. (Table 2)
As for the second language/dialect spoken at home, Mangyan-Iraya was reported to be highest in the barangays of Caagutayan and Bigaan with 38.0 percent and 10.7 percent, respectively. (Table 2)
The third language/dialect spoken at home was also Mangyan-Iraya. This was reported to be the highest in Barangay Lumangbayan with 1.0 percent. (Table 2)
American English is the primary foreign language spoken at home by San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro residents who converse in a foreign language
In 2020, there were two households in San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro who generally speak in a foreign language at home. This constituted to less than 0.1 percent of the municipality’s total number of households not enumerated as homeless during the time of the census. (Table 3)
