Language/Dialects Spoken in Socorro, Oriental Mindoro
(2020 Census of Population and Housing)

 

Tagalog is the language generally spoken in 9,555 households in Socorro, Oriental Mindoro

Based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH), Tagalog is spoken in 9,555 households or 96.8 percent of the 9,869 households in the municipality. Mangyan-Tadyawan was the second most generally spoken language at home with 206 households or 2.1 percent, followed by Mangyan-Tau-Buid with 41 households or 0.4 percent. (Figure 1)

 

 

Other languages/dialects such as Mangyan-Bangon, Bisaya/Binisaya, Mangyan-Buhid, T’Duray/Teduray, American/English, Mangyan, and Tagakaulo were generally spoken in 50 households or 0.5 percent of the total households in the municipality. (Table 1)

Of the 26 barangays in the municipality of Socorro, Oriental Mindoro, Barangay Bagsok, Barangay Batong Dalig, Barangay Catiningan, Barangay Calubayan, Barangay Pasi I, Barangay Zone III, Barangay Santo Domingo, and Barangay Subaan were the most homogeneous in terms of language/dialect spoken by their households, with all households generally speaking Tagalog at home (100.0 percent). Barangay Leuteboro I, Barangay Leuteboro II, and Barangay Calocmoy followed with 99.8 percent, each. Meanwhile, Barangay Bugtong na Tuog had only 57.7 percent of its households with Tagalog as the top language spoken at home. (Table 2)

As for the second language/dialect spoken at home, Mangyan-Tadyawan was reported to be highest in the barangays of Bugtong na Tuog and Zone II with 41.1 percent and 7.4 percent, respectively. This was followed by Mangyan-Tau-Buid being highest in the barangay of Fortuna with 6.5 percent. (Table 2)

The third language/dialect spoken at home was also Mangyan-Tadyawan. This was reported to be the highest in Barangay Fortuna with 4.4 percent. (Table 2)

In 2020, there were four households in Socorro, Oriental Mindoro who generally speak in a foreign language at home. This constituted to less than 0.1 percent of the municipality’s total number of households not enumerated as homeless during the time of the census. (Table 3)

Language/dialect generally spoken at home refers to the language or dialect generally used or spoken by the members of the household most of the time at home. It provides a measure of the linguistic homogeneity or difference in the population. Specifically, it measures the extent of the actual use of a language/dialect within a household. The Philippines' official languages are Filipino and English.
