12 SEPTEMBER 2024 – MARINDUQUE PROVINCIAL STATISTICAL OFFICE. The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Marinduque Provincial Statistical Office (PSO) held a press briefing on 12 September 2024, at the Marinduque Provincial Statistical Office in Boac, Marinduque, presenting the latest inflation report for the province, covering August 2024. The briefing was led by Supervising Statistical Specialist Mr. Orlando M. Mercene, who disclosed that the province's headline inflation experienced a modest increase of 0.7 percent in August, resulting in an average inflation rate of 1.3 percent for the period January to August 2024.
SSS Mercene explained that the uptick in inflation was primarily driven by rising prices in several key categories, most notably food and non-alcoholic beverages, transportation, and educational services. The briefing provided a detailed breakdown of these factors, highlighting the specific commodities and services that saw the most significant price hikes, which contributed to the overall inflation surge in the province.
The event culminated in a Q&A session where attendees, including representatives from government agencies, the media, and the general public, posed critical questions. This open forum allowed for a constructive dialogue on how inflation impacts the province's economic landscape and what measures can be adopted to mitigate its effects on vulnerable sectors.
The press event concluded with a commitment from PSA-Marinduque to continue delivering timely and reliable economic statistics for the benefit of the public and decision-makers alike.
