18 December 2024- The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Regional Statistical Services Office (RSSO) MIMAROPA successfully conducted the Regional Data Dissemination Forum on Construction Statistics from Approved Building Permits on 09 December 2024 at Mahalta Resorts and Convention Center, Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro.

The forum aimed to present and discuss significant data on construction statistics in the region, including the number of constructions, construction value, total floor area, and average construction costs. It also served as a platform to recognize the cooperation of local government units (LGUs) in data submission and to address issues and concerns related to the statistics generated. 

PSA MIMAROPA Regional Director Leni R. Rioflorido reported a total of 4,501 constructions in the region for 2023, marking a significant 23.0 percent increase from the 3,659 recorded in 2022. Residential constructions dominated the statistics, with 2,799 projects accounting for 62.2 percent of the total. Non-residential constructions followed, contributing 1,444 projects or 32.1 percent. Addition—referring to new constructions that increase the height or floor area of existing buildings—accounted for 1.2 percent, while alterations and repairs comprised 2.4 percent of the total construction projects in the region.

The event gathered 80 participants, including PSA officials and personnel, as well as representatives from LGUs in the region. As part of the program, plaques of recognition were awarded to exemplary LGUs for their timely submission of data.
