PRESS RELEASE

PSA Oriental Mindoro Conducts February 2024 Survey of Retail Prices of Selected Commodities for the Generation of Consumer Price Index

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Oriental Mindoro will conduct the February 2024 round of the monthly Survey of Retail Prices of Selected Commodities for the Generation of Consumer Price Index (CPI) on the 1st week of February 2024. The conduct of this survey is in accordance with Republic Act (RA) No. 10625 otherwise known as the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013, which authorizes the PSA to prepare and conduct periodic censuses on various sectors of economy and Executive Order No. 352 mandating the conduct of the survey every month.

The Retail Price Survey (RPS) collects retail prices and other relevant marketing information at various frequencies at pre-selected major trading centers throughout the province. The term “retail price” refers to the price at which a commodity is sold in small quantities for consumption. It will also generate the CPI that measures the changes in the average retail prices of a fixed basket of goods and services commonly purchased by households relative to a base year.

Three (3) hired Statistical Researchers (SRs) will be involved in the operation. The hired SRs will undergo a one-day training, and right after, the price collection will be conducted, followed by data encoding and validation.

In the Province of Oriental Mindoro, 355 sample outlets/establishments in the municipalities of Roxas, Bongabong, Pinamalayan, Puerto Galera and City of Calapan will be visited for the RPS.

The PSA is committed to deliver relevant and reliable statistics. Hence, the agency encourages the public, especially the sample establishments, to participate in the various censuses and surveys conducted by the PSA. The agency also assures that all collected personal information are processed in accordance with the law and other issuances.
