01 February 2025 – NAUJAN, ORIENTAL MINDORO. The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Provincial Statistical Office of Oriental Mindoro conducted the data collection for the Monthly Palay and Corn Situation Reporting System (MPCSRS) in February 2025. This survey is in accordance with Republic Act (RA) No. 10625 or the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013, which authorizes the PSA to prepare and conduct periodic censuses on various sectors of the economy, and Executive Order No. 352 mandating the conduct of the survey every month.

The MPCSRS is one of the major agricultural surveys conducted by the PSA. This survey aims to update the estimates for the current quarter based on standing crops, area, and production of palay and corn across the country. Such estimates are subject to changes depending on weather conditions, inputs and outputs, prices, and other factors which contribute largely to the deviations of the actual data compared to the initial estimates. A close monitoring of the growing conditions of the crop is deemed necessary.

The MPCSRS is conducted during the first five days of the month, between the Palay and Corn Production Survey (PCPS) of February, March, May, June, August, September, and November. It covers sample palay and corn farming households from the PCPS palay and corn-producing sample barangays.

Four statistical researchers (SRs) were involved in data collection for the February round, which took place from 01 to 06 February 2025. The hired SRs underwent a one-day training prior to the data collection to ensure consistency in concepts and operational procedures. Tablets were used as the medium for data collection, in accordance with Computer-Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI) approach.

In the Province of Oriental Mindoro, 88 sample households from the municipalities of Calapan City, Naujan, Pinamalayan, Bansud, and Bulalacao were interviewed.

The PSA is committed to deliver relevant and reliable statistics. Hence, the agency encourages the public, especially the sample households, to participate in the various censuses and surveys conducted by the PSA. The agency also assures that all collected personal information are processed in accordance with the law and other issuances.
