Across the Philippines, Local Civil Registry Offices work closely with the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) to ensure the accurate documentation of vital events such as live births. These records serve as the foundation for both personal legal documents and national demographic analysis. Their collaboration plays a crucial role in maintaining reliable data, which is essential for policymaking, governance, and sustainable development. Proper registration of these vital events enables the government to plan public services effectively, allocate resources efficiently, and monitor population trends, contributing to the overall progress of the nation.

Registered Live Births by Municipality
In 2023, a total of 1,448,522 live births were registered in the Philippines, with 2,788 of these recorded in the province of Marinduque.

Among the municipalities in the province, Boac, the provincial capital, recorded the highest number of registered live births, totaling 1,744, which accounted for 62.6 percent of the total live births in Marinduque. In contrast, the Municipality of Mogpog recorded the lowest number of registered live births throughout the year, with only 11 cases, representing 0.4 percent of the province's total registered live births.

Registered Live Births by Sex
In the year 2023, the sex distribution of registered live births indicated a higher number of male infants compared to female infants. A total of 1,504 male births were recorded, accounting for 53.9 percent of the total, while female births numbered 1,284, representing 46.1 percent. These figures lead to a sex ratio of 117 males for every 100 females born and registered in 2023.

Among the municipalities in the province of Marinduque, Boac recorded the highest number of registered live births for both sexes. A total of 955 male births were registered in Boac, comprising 63.5 percent of the total male births in the province. Meanwhile, 789 female births were recorded in the same municipality, representing 61.4 percent of the total female births.

In contrast, Mogpog had the lowest number of registered live births for both sexes, with only five male births and six female births recorded. Furthermore, as presented in Figure 3, a higher number of female births were registered in the municipalities of Gasan, Mogpog, and Torrijos.

Registered Live Births by Month
The monthly distribution of registered live births in Marinduque from January to December is presented in Figure 4. The highest number of registered live births in the province was recorded in January, with a total of 287 births, accounting for 10.3 percent of the overall registered live births. In contrast, the lowest number of registered live births occurred in July, with 197 cases, representing 7.1 percent of the total.

On a monthly basis, the highest recorded number in the province was 184, which occurred in the Municipality of Boac during the month of January. Meanwhile, the lowest recorded count was one, primarily observed in the Municipality of Mogpog during the months of January, March, May, June, August, and November. Additionally, in May, the Municipality of Gasan also recorded only one registered live birth.

Registered Live Births by Attendant at Birth
In 2023, Figure 5 presents data on the type of birth attendants assisting deliveries at both the national and provincial levels. At the national level, the majority of births were attended by health professionals, with a total of 1,378,744 recorded cases, making it the most common type of birth assistance. Additionally, 64,875 births were assisted by traditional birth attendants, while 4,840 were attended by individuals classified under other types of attendants. Meanwhile, 63 births did not specify the attendant present at the time of delivery.

In the province of Marinduque, a total of 2,788 births were recorded during the same year. Of this number, 2,723 births, accounting for 97.7 percent of the total, were attended by health professionals, making it the highest recorded category of birth assistance, similar to the national trend. Meanwhile, 21 births, or 0.8 percent of the total, were assisted by traditional birth attendants, representing the lowest count among the classifications. The remaining 44 births, comprising 1.6 percent of the total, were attended by individuals categorized under other types of birth attendants.

Registered Live Births by Site of Delivery
In 2023, at the national level, a total of 1,363,758 babies were delivered in health facilities, ensuring access to medical care and professional assistance. Meanwhile, 76,265 births took place at home, where deliveries were likely attended by traditional birth attendants or family members. Additionally, 8,499 births were recorded in other locations, which may include emergency deliveries in transit, birthing centers outside health facilities, or other unconventional settings.

In the province of Marinduque, a total of 2,721 births occurred in health facilities, highlighting the accessibility and utilization of medical services within the province. In contrast, 67 babies were delivered at home, reflecting a smaller but still notable number of home births.

Among the six municipalities in Marinduque, Boac recorded the highest number of births in health facilities, with 1,712 deliveries. Additionally, Boac also had the highest number of home births, with 32 cases.

On the other hand, Mogpog had the lowest number of births in health facilities, with only 10 recorded deliveries, as well as the lowest number of home births, with just one case. This suggests a notably lower birth rate in the municipality compared to others in the province. Furthermore, the municipalities of Santa Cruz and Buenavista reported no recorded cases of home births, implying that all deliveries in these areas took place in health facilities or other settings.

Registered Live Births by Citizenship of Parents
The majority of registered live births were recorded with both parents being Filipino, representing the highest number among all citizenship categories. Figure 7 provides an overview of the citizenships of parents other than Filipino.
Following Filipino parentage, the second most prevalent nationality was Chinese, with 636 live births in which the mother was Chinese and 1,535 in which the father was Chinese. Conversely, the lowest number of live births involving foreign mothers was recorded among Romanian nationals, with only 21 cases. Among fathers, the lowest count was observed among Canadian nationals, with only 107 registered live births.
Furthermore, the data includes a category designated as "other citizenship," encompassing various nationalities not explicitly listed. This category accounted for 445 mothers and a considerably larger 1,567 fathers. In addition, 60 mothers had their citizenship listed as "not stated," indicating a lack of available or recorded information. A significantly larger number of fathers, specifically 61,667, were categorized as "not stated" for citizenship.

The collaboration between Marinduque's Local Civil Registry Offices and the PSA Marinduque Provincial Statistical Office is essential in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of vital event records. These records serve as a key resource for demographic analysis, public health planning, and policy formulation within the province.

In conclusion, the meticulous documentation of live births, marriages, and deaths in Marinduque demonstrates a strong dedication to maintaining accurate and reliable demographic data. This information is crucial for informed decision-making and effective governance, supporting initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of life and well-being of the province’s residents. This report highlights the importance of systematic data collection and intergovernmental cooperation in recording and analyzing vital events, ultimately contributing to the sustainable development and continued progress of Marinduque Province.
