The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Marinduque Provincial Statistical Office (PSO) meticulously documented vital events transpiring across the six municipalities of Marinduque throughout the year 2022. Working in close coordination with local civil registry offices, the PSA Marinduque PSO compiled a comprehensive record of these events, focusing on live births, marriages, and deaths, thereby providing a detailed insight into demographic trends and patterns prevalent in the province.

The recorded vital events were meticulously presented by month and by sex to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the data. Notably, in the period January to December 2022, September recorded the highest number of vital events at 321, while February saw the lowest with 197. This detailed breakdown enables thorough analysis, revealing potential correlations or patterns within different population segments. By examining variations across months, researchers can identify seasonal influences or external factors impacting these statistics. Such granular analysis is invaluable for informing targeted interventions and resource allocation strategies, benefiting policymakers, healthcare professionals, and researchers alike.

The data reveals a slight male predominance among the registered live births in Marinduque, with male infants comprising 53.2 percent of the total births. However, the proportion of female infants remains significant, representing 46.8 percent of the total. This gender distribution within the newborn population may have implications for future demographic trends and healthcare planning in the region. Further analysis of factors influencing birth rates and gender ratios could provide valuable insights into societal dynamics and healthcare needs within Marinduque.

The meticulous recording of marriage occurrences in Marinduque encompassed all municipalities within the province, capturing data from various religious and ceremonial traditions. Irrespective of differences in religious affiliations or wedding customs, a total of 940 pairs were officially registered throughout the year. May emerged as the month with the highest number of marriages, totaling 184 pairs, while August recorded the lowest at 27. This comprehensive documentation provides valuable insights into the socio-cultural dynamics and marital trends within Marinduque, aiding in the formulation of policies and programs that cater to the diverse needs of its population.

The documentation of deaths in 2022 unveiled a sum of 1,802 officially recorded fatalities, with January logging the peak at 216 and April marking the nadir at 127. This detailed record sheds light on the fluctuating patterns of mortality throughout the year, hinting at potential seasonal variations or underlying health trends influencing mortality rates. Moreover, such meticulous data collection enables deeper insights into the dynamics of mortality within Marinduque, offering valuable information for policymakers, healthcare professionals, and researchers striving to enhance public health initiatives and address community needs.

Furthermore, the gender distribution among deceased individuals sheds light on potential disparities in healthcare access or mortality risk factors between males and females. Within the total count of registered deaths, 1,006 were male, representing 55.8 percent, while the remaining 796 were female, accounting for 44.2 percent. Technical Notes

Vital Statistics are derived from information obtained at the time when the occurrences of vital events and their characteristics are inscribed in a civil register. Vital acts and events are birth, death, and marriages, and all such event that have something to do with an individual’s entrance and departure from life together with the changes in civil status that may occur to a person during his lifetime. Recording of these events in civil register is known as vital or civil registration and the resulting documents are vital records.  

Birth is a complete expulsion or extraction from its mother of a product of conception, irrespective of the duration of the pregnancy, which after such separation, breathes or shows any other evidence of life, such as beating of the heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord, or definite movement of voluntary muscles, whether or not umbilical cord has been cut or the placenta is attached- each product of such a birth is considered liveborn.

Death refers to the permanent disappearance of all evidence of life at any time after live birth has taken place (postnatal cessation of vital function without capability of resuscitation).

Marriage is defined as special contract of permanent union between a man and a woman entered in accordance with law for the establishment of conjugal and family life.
