Other crops production grew by 3.39 percent

The total other crops production in Romblon during the fourth quarter of 2024 reached 64,902.57 metric tons showing an increase of 3.39 percent from the 62,773.28 metric tons during the same period in 2023. The growth was attributed to the increased production in non-food and industrial crops (NFICS), vegetable and root crops and fruit crops sectors. (Table 1)

Other crops production was categorized into three sub-sectors: NFICS, fruit crops, and vegetable and rootcrops. During the fourth quarter of 2024, NFICS got the biggest share with 60,935 metric tons or 93.89 percents. It was followed by vegetables and rootcrops with 2,219.20 metric tons or 3.42 percents and fruit crops with 1,748.37 metric tons. (Figure 1)

Non-Food and Industrial Crops production grew by 3.46 percent

Non-food and Industrial Crops (NFICS) production during the fourth quarter of 2024 was 60,935 metric tons. It increased by 2,040.58 metric tons or 3.46 percent higher than the 58,894.42 metric tons recorded during the fourth quarter of 2023. The growth was be attributed to the increase in coconut production as a result of premature harvesting due to Typhoon Kristine. (Figure 2)

Coconut with husk tops in Non-Food and Industrial Crops production

The top five commodities in non-food and industrial crops during the 4th quarter of 2024 includes coconut with husk, coconut sap (tuba), coconut leaves, nipa leaves and banana leaves. Coconut with husk has the highest production with 60,458.05 metric tons. It was followed by coconut sap with 314.25 metric tons, coconut leaves with 94.65 metric tons, nipa leaves with 67.76 metric tons and banana leaves with 0.25 metric tons. (Table 2)

Fruit crops production increased by 1.58 percent

The volume of production in fruits crops increased from 1,721.17 metric tons in  fourth quarter of 2023 to 1,748.37 metric tons in 4th quarter of 2024, indicating an increase of 1.58 percent.

Banana tops in fruit crops production

The top five commodities harvested in 4th quarter 2024 includes banana, calamansi, papaya, jackfruit ripe, and pomelo. Banana was the most harvested crops with 1,514.72 metric tons. It was followed by calamansi with 53.19 metric tons, papaya with 41.14 metric tons, jackfruit ripe with 40.42 metric tons and pomelo with 25.71 metric tons. (Table 3)

Vegetables and rootcrops production increases by 2.85 percent

The vegetable and rootcrops production in the province of Romblon was recorded at 2,219.20 metric tons in the fourth quarter of 2024. This indicates a growth of 2.85 percent compared to the 2,157.69 metric tons production recorded during the same period in 2023.

Cassava, fresh tubers tops in vegetables and rootcrops production

The top five harvested commodities for vegetables and rootcrops were cassava (fresh tubers), camote (sweet potato), gabi (taro), squash fruit and papaya, green. Cassava, fresh tubers gained the highest production with 639.00 metric tons. It was followed by camote (sweet potato) with 410.46 metric tons, gabi (taro) with 305.05 metric tons, squash fruit with 170.75 metric tons and papaya (green) with 128.44 metric tons. (Table 4)
