Explanatory Notes The data on the number of marriages presented in this special release were obtained from the vital events registered either timely or belatedly, at the appropriate Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrar throughout the country and subsequently submitted for encoding to the Office of the Civil Registrar General through the Provincial Statistical Offices (PSOs) of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). The information presented includes provisional vital events that occurred from July to September 2023 based on the data files received by the PSA – Civil Registration Service (CRS) from the PSOs and has undergone initial processing as of 31 July 2024. Thus, the figures presented herein are still preliminary and may differ from the final count. The vital events of Filipinos abroad are not yet included in this release, but Filipino whose usual residence is abroad and foreign national with vital events occurring in the country during the refence period were included in this report1. |
One in every 30 registered marriages take place in the MIMAROPA Region
During the fourth quarter of 2023, there were 2,871 marriages registered in the MIMAROPA Region. This accounts to a 3.4 percent share from the country’s total of 82,525 recorded marriages in October to December of 2023. (Table A)
Among provinces in the region, Palawan (excluding the City of Puerto Princesa) posted the highest number of registered marriages during the fourth quarter of 2023 at 834. This translates to a 29.0 percent share to the total number of registered marriages in the region. Oriental Mindoro closely followed with a total of 750 registered marriages (26.1%). Meanwhile, Marinduque had the lowest number of registered marriages with 249 (8.7%). (Figure 1)
On the other hand, the lone highly urbanized City of Puerto Princesa had a total of 307 recorded marriages in the fourth quarter of 2023. This translates to 10.7 percent of the total marriages reported in the region. (Figure 1)
Number of registered marriages reduces by 10.8 percent
Compared to the number of marriages reported in fourth quarter of 2022, the MIMAROPA Region realized a 10.8 percent decline from 3,218 recorded marriages to 2,871 registered marriages in the same quarter of the succeeding year.
Relative to the provincial number of reported marriages during October to December 2022, two provinces and one highly urbanized city contributed to the decrease in the region’s number of registered marriages. Palawan posted the largest decrement of 200 marriages or 19.3 percent from 1,034 registered marriages during the fourth quarter of 2022 to 834 registered marriages in the same quarter of 2023. This was followed by Oriental Mindoro with a decrease of 177 marriages (19.1% decline) and City of Puerto Princesa with a reduction of 28 marriages (8.4% decline) (Figure 2)
Registered marriages in Marinduque increase by 22.7 percent
A total of 249 marriages were reported in Marinduque for the fourth quarter of 2023. This was 22.7 percent higher than the reported 203 marriages in the same quarter of the previous year. The highest registration was recorded in the month of December with 115 marriages or 46.2 percent share to the province’s total registered marriages in the fourth quarter of 2023. (Table A and Figure 3)
Registered marriages in Occidental Mindoro go up by 2.1 percent
A total of 430 marriages were reported in Occidental Mindoro for the fourth quarter of 2023, an 2.1 percent increase from 421 registered marriages in the same period of the previous year. The highest registration was recorded in the month of December with 227 marriages or 52.8 percent share to the province’s total registered marriages in the fourth quarter of 2023. (Table A and Figure 4)
Registered marriages in Oriental Mindoro decrease by 19.1 percent
During October to December 2023, there were 750 marriages recorded in Oriental Mindoro, an increase of 19.1 percent from the reported 927 marriages in the fourth quarter of the previous year. The highest registration was recorded in the month of December with 363 marriages or 48.4 percent share to the province’s total registered marriages. (Table A and Figure 5)
Registered marriages in Palawan diminish by 19.3 percent
A total of 834 marriages were recorded in Palawan (excluding the City of Puerto Princesa) in the fourth quarter of 2023. This figure was 19.3 percent lower than the reported 1,034 marriages in the same quarter of the previous year. The highest registration was recorded in the month of December with 482 marriages or 58.0 percent share to the province’s total registered marriages. (Table A and

Registered marriages in Romblon increase by 1.0 percent
During the fourth quarter of 2023, a total of 301 marriages were recorded in the province of Romblon. This was 1.0 percent slightly higher than the reported 298 marriages in the same quarter of the previous year. The highest registration was recorded in the month of December with 210 marriages or 69.8 percent share to the province’s total registered marriages. (Table A and Figure 7)
Registered marriages in the City of Puerto Princesa down by 8.4 percent
A total of 307 marriages were recorded in the City of Puerto Princesa during October to December 2023, a 8.4 percent decline from the reported 335 marriages in the same quarter of the previous year. The highest registration was recorded in the month of December with 154 marriages or 50.2 percent share to the city’s total registered marriages. (Table A and Figure 8)
