MIMAROPA Region recorded 890.4 thousand housing units in 2020

Based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH), a total of 890,357 housing units were listed in the MIMAROPA Region. Of this total, 781,435 housing units were occupied by households / household population as of 01 May 2020.  Between 2020 CPH and 2015 Census of Population (PopCen), the total number of housing units went up by 150,809 or 20.4 percent. Moreover, a total of 243,374 housing units or 37.6 percent were added from the reported 646,983 housing units in 2010. (Figure 1)

Between census years 2020 and 2015, the number of occupied housing units increased by 104,134 or 15.4 percent. In 1960, the reported total number of occupied housing units was 130,656, that is, 16.7 percent of the number of occupied housing units of the country in the 2020 CPH. (Figure 2)

Occupancy rate was posted at 87.8 percent regionwide

In the MIMAROPA Region, the occupancy rate or the ratio of the total occupied housing units to the total number of housing units in 2020 was posted at 87.8 percent. The occupancy rate five years ago was higher at 91.6 percent. This means that there were more vacant housing units in 2020 than in 2015. (Table 1)

Among provinces in the region, Occidental Mindoro posted the highest occupancy rate of 90.4 percent in 2020. This was followed by Oriental Mindoro with 89.1 percent and Romblon with 88.5 percent. The lowest occupancy rate was recorded in the City of Puerto Princesa at 82.7 percent. (Table 1)
 

Palawan (excluding the City of Puerto Princesa) had the greatest number of occupied housing units

The top three provinces with the largest population sizes are also the top three regions in terms of number of occupied housing units. Palawan (excluding the City of Puerto Princesa) had the highest number of occupied housing units with a total of 228,788 occupied housing units in the MIMAROPA Region. Said province had 29.3 percent share of the total occupied housing units in the region. (Table 1)

Oriental Mindoro ranked second with 212,416 occupied housing units (27.2%), and the Occidental Mindoro came in third with 125,023 (16.0%). Meanwhile, Marinduque which had the smallest regional population size, recorded the least number of occupied housing units with 59,263 (7.6%). (Table 1)


There were 101 households per 100 occupied housing units in the region

A total of 792,789 households were recorded in the region in 2020. This translates to 101 households in every 100 occupied housing units, which was at par with the ratio reported in 2015. (Table 2)

Across the region, the highly urbanized City of Puerto Princesa recorded the highest ratio of 103 households for every 100 occupied housing units. This was followed by Marinduque and Romblon each with a ratio of 102 households per 100 occupied housing units. (Table 2)

There were 4.1 persons per occupied housing units

On the average, there were 4.1 persons per occupied housing unit in 2020. This was slightly lower than the estimated 4.4 persons recorded in 2015. (Figure 3)
 

Across the region, Oriental Mindoro posted the highest ratio of 4.3 households for every occupied housing unit. This was followed by Occidental Mindoro with a ratio of 4.2 households per occupied housing unit. The City of Puerto Princesa had the lowest ratio of 3.8 households per occupied unit. (Figure 3)

The statistics presented in this Special Release were based on the information provided by the household respondents or any responsible member who provided answers to the questions and gave information about the characteristics of the housing units.
