Explanatory Notes

Data items on household conveniences, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) devices, and vehicles were collected by the enumerator from a sample of 20 percent of the total households in the enumeration area/s using CPH Form 3 (Sample Household Questionnaire) or CPH Form 7 (Self-Administered Questionnaire for Sample Household).

This Special Release was prepared in support to the National ICT Month this June 2024 pursuant to the Proclamation No. 1521, s. 2008. This year’s theme “Bayang Digital ang Bagong Pilipinas” echoes the collective responsibility for change inherent in a Bagong Pilipinas. Through this concept, the Philippines is envisioned where digital connectivity unites us all, where government services are streamlined through technology, where cyber safety is prioritized, and where innovation and growth opportunities abound for every citizen.

Mobile phone was the most owned ICT device by households

As of 12:01 a.m. of 01 May 2020, a total of 169,157 households in Palawan (excluding the City of Puerto Princesa) reported that they own at least one mobile phone. This translated to 73.3 percent or nearly three in every four of its households with such ICT device. On the other hand, of the 82,100 households in the City of Puerto Princesa, only 72,491 households or 88.3 percent reported that they possess a mobile phone. (Table A and Figure 1)

Among municipalities of Palawan, Narra had the most number of households who own at least one mobile phone at 16,524 households or 18.1 percent share to the provincial total households who had a mobile phone. This was followed by Bataraza and Brooke’s Point with a corresponding share of 9.0 percent and 8.6 percent. Meanwhile, Kalayaan had the least share of 33 households with a mobile phone in the province. (Table A)

In terms of the proportion of households who own at least one mobile phone by municipality, Kalayaan posted the highest proportion of 94.3 percent. This was followed by Magsaysay (85.1%), Narra (84.7%), Cuyo (84.6%), and Cagayancillo (84.0%). Meanwhile, Balabac posted the lowest proportion of its households who possess a mobile phone at 46.4 percent. (Figure 1)

Aside from mobile phones, other ICT devices commonly owned by households in Palawan (except City of Puerto Princesa) include television (46.0%), radio and radio cassette (24.4%), and CD, DVD and VCD players (11.4%). On the other hand, households in the City of Puerto Princesa commonly owned television (70.4%), radio and radio cassette (34.5%), and personal computer (23.0%).  (Table A and Figure 2)

Electric fan and other cooling equipment was the most owned household convenience by households

The household convenience mostly owned by households in Palawan and in the City of Puerto Princesa was electric fan and other cooling equipment. This was reported by 98,549 households in 23 municipalities of Palawan (42.7%), and by 65,985 households in the City of Puerto Princesa (80.4%). (Table B and Figure 3)

Among municipalities of Palawan, Narra had the greatest share of the total households in the province who own an electric fan and other cooling equipment at 13.5 percent. This was followed by Coron (10.3%), Brooke’s Point (8.7%), and Roxas (7.7%). Kalayaan had the least share of below 0.1 percent with only 29 of its households reported that they owned such household convenience. (Table B)

In terms of the proportion of households with at least one electric fan and other cooling equipment among 23 municipalities in the province, Kalayaan registered 82.9 percent of its households who own this kind of housing convenience. Cuyo (70.0%), Narra (68.0%), Coron (61.5%), and Cagayancillo (59.9%) ranked second up to fifth spot among municipalities with highest prevalence of households owning an electric fan and other cooling equipment. Meanwhile, Balabac had the lowest proportion of households possessing an electric fan and other cooling equipment at 14.8 percent. (Figure 3)

Other household convenience commonly owned by households residing in any of the 23 municipalities of Palawan include washing machine (20.3%), refrigerator or freezer (18.1%), and stove with oven or gas range (11.7%). The same trend of household conveniences possessed by households in the City of Puerto Princesa with the corresponding proportion of 46.6 percent, 43.4 percent, and 33.6 percent. (Table B and Figure 4)


Motorcycle, motor scooter or tricycle was the most owned vehicle

The most owned vehicle by households in Palawan and in the City of Puerto Princesa was motorcycle, motor scooter or tricycle. This was reported by 102,940 households residing in the 23 municipalities of Palawan or 44.6 percent of the total number of households in the province. On the other hand, 13 in every 25 households residing in the City of Puerto Princesa or 52.5 percent had such vehicle. (Table C and Figure 5)

Among municipalities of Palawan, Narra had the greatest share of the total households in the province who own a motorcycle, motor scooter or tricycle at 11.7 percent. This was closely followed by Brooke’s Point and Bataraza with a corresponding share of 10.2 percent and 10.0 percent. Meanwhile, Kalayaan posted the lowest share of less than 0.1 percent as reported by its eight (8) households.  (Table C)

In terms of the proportion of households possessing this kind of vehicle among municipalities of Palawan, Narra ranked first with 61.9 percent of its households with motorcycle, motor scooter or tricycle. This was followed by Aborlan (58.5%), Brooke’s Point (56.9%), Magsaysay (53.4%), and El Nido (52.8%). Meanwhile, Linapacan posted the lowest proportion of households with such vehicle at 4.7 percent. (Figure 4)

Other vehicles commonly owned by households in all municipalities of Palawan include motorized boat or banca (13.6%), and its nonmotorized counterpart (5.5%). Car, van, jeep or truck (11.5%), and bicycle or pedicab (6.5%) were commonly owned by households in the City of Puerto Princesa. (Table C and Figure 6)
