Figure 1. Snapshot of the pace of progress at the goal level based on the current status index. The pace of progress results were based on the available Core Regional Sustainable Development Goals (CoRe-SDGI) collected by the PSA Central Office as of 08 November 2023, and the 2030 numerical targets at the national level. In analyzing the pace of progress, one must be cautious in comparing from the previous year since its estimation is affected by the number of indicators with updates and available disaggregation in a particular year. Hence, year-on-year comparison of the pace of progress should be handled carefully.

27 June 2024 – CALAPAN CITY. Progress towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) remains as big challenge in the Philippines, as well as the MIMAROPA Region, since most of the country’s gains in the past have been reversed by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

How much progress has been made since 2015?

Based on the Current Status Index (CSI), progress was observed in eight out of eleven Goals covered by the CoRe-SDG since 2015.  It may be noted that among these goals, Goal 5, 7, 8, 10, 11 and 13 surpassed the 2023 line.  Meanwhile, Goals 2, 3 and 16 regressed since 2015.

How much progress has been made since 2015?

Based on the results of the Anticipated Progress Index (API), six out of 24 targets with measurable progress are on track (16.7%), eight targets (33.3%) requires accelerated efforts to achieve them, while the remaining 10 targets of the SDG (41.7%) require exponential acceleration of its pace in order to reverse the downtrend so as to achieve the goal in 2030.

In the same manner as in the SDG target level API, 13 out of 38 SDG indicators that met the data requirements are on track (34.2%), while ten indicators with measurable progress need acceleration (26.3%).  On the other hand, 15 indicators need reversal of the trend (39.5%).

The annual monitoring, compilation, and dissemination of the Philippines SDG indicators by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) through the SDG Watch by virtue of the PSA Board Resolution No. 9, s. 2017.
