29 APRIL 2025 – SANTA CRUZ, MARINDUQUE. On 29 April 2025, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – Marinduque Provincial Statistical Office, in partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Santa Cruz, successfully conducted Information Dissemination and Mobile Registration Services in Barangay Bangcuangan, Santa Cruz, Marinduque. The activity took place at the Bangcuangan Barangay Hall, where teams from PSA and the LGU assisted residents with birth registration and enrollment in the National Identification System.
BRC Shiela Mae Matining, National ID Registration Team member Danice Sherlean Laceda, Information Officer I Danica Gamara, and Santa Cruz LCRO staff Trixia Camille Romasanta provided on-site support to individuals who were not yet listed in the PSA database and had not registered for the National ID.
Barangay officials of Bangcuangan, representing Punong Barangay Crisostomo Rogelio, also extended their support to ensure the smooth conduct of the activity. As part of the initiative, two Certificates of Live Birth (COLB) printed on Security Paper were distributed to beneficiaries—a senior citizen couple aged 84 and 68, who had never previously registered their births. The couple expressed heartfelt gratitude for receiving their official PSA-issued birth certificates, free of charge.
Later that same day, the team also conducted Information Dissemination activities in Barangay Lipa, Santa Cruz, during the DSWD Family Development Session (FDS) for 4Ps beneficiaries facilitated by Municipal Link Joseph Gerald Collantes. During the session, the team also collected names of individuals without birth certificates for verification in the PSA database and future registration assistance.
This initiative forms part of a broader, nationwide campaign to strengthen the civil registration system, particularly for historically underserved and vulnerable populations such as Indigenous Peoples, Muslim Filipinos, and other marginalized sectors. Many individuals in these communities remain unregistered due to various barriers, including geographic isolation, financial constraints, and lack of awareness about the importance and processes of civil registration.
By bringing mobile registration services directly to the communities and enrolling individuals in the National Identification System, the program not only ensures their official recognition by the state but also empowers them to exercise their rights and access a wide range of social welfare programs. This includes healthcare, education, financial assistance, and legal protections that require valid identification.
