22 MAY 2025 – BOAC, MARINDUQUE – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) PSO Marinduque successfully conducted the May 2025 Retail Price Survey (RPS) of Selected Commodities for the Generation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in two phases. Phase 1 was carried out on May 1 to 5, 2025, for Outlets 1-6, and Phase 2 on May 15 to 17, 2025, for Outlets 1 and 2 only. Price collection for the first phase was conducted in selected stores and service providers in all municipalities across the province. While in the second phase, price collection was limited to the provincial capital.

The Retail Price Survey plays a crucial role in monitoring the movement of prices for a fixed basket of goods and services commonly purchased by Filipino households. Data collected from the survey directly contributes to the computation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which serves as a key indicator of inflation and an essential input for economic planning, wage adjustments, and policy-making.

The PSA trained six (6) field personnel who visited pre-identified retail outlets, including public markets, grocery stores, and other commercial establishments, to collect prevailing prices of various commodities. These include food and non-alcoholic beverages, housing, water, electricity, gas, transportation, and other basic consumer goods and services.

The PSA guarantees that all data collected is handled with utmost confidentiality and in accordance with Republic Act No. 10173 (Data Privacy Act of 2012) and Republic Act No. 10625, which emphasize the protection of respondents’ information and its exclusive use for statistical purposes.
