City of Puerto Princesa
The headline inflation in the City of Puerto Princesa slightly increased to 4.1 percent in June 2024, from 4.0 percent in the previous month. In June 2023, inflation rate is higher at 4.2 percent, (Table A and Figure 1).
The uptrend in the overall inflation in the city during the month was primarily influenced by the higher index for Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels which posted an inflation rate of 9.0 percent from 7.1 percent last month. This was followed by Restaurants and Accommodation Services at 3.7 percent, from 0.8 percent; and Personal Care, and Miscellaneous Good and Services, at 1.4 percent from 1.2 percent in May 2024.
On the other hand, lower inflation rates were observed in the indices of the following commodity groups:
a. Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages, 4.1 percent from 5.4 percent;
b. Alcoholic Beverage and Tobacco, 2.6 percent from 3.3 percent;
c. Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routing Household Maintenance, 0.7 percent from 1.0 percent;
d. Health, 3.9 percent from 4.0 percent;
e. Transport, -1.2 percent from -0.3 percent; and
f. Recreation, Sport, Culture, 2.0 percent from 2.9 percent.
Meanwhile, four commodity groups retained their previous month’s inflation rates, namely: Clothing and Footwear at 0.3 percent; Information and Communication at -1.0 percent; Education Services at 0.9 percent; and Financial Services, at 0.0 percent.

Food index for June 2024 decreased to 4.4 percent inflation rate, from 5.7 percent in the previous month. In June 2023, the food index was higher, at 4.5 percent inflation rate, (Table C).
The deceleration of the food inflation for the month was brought about by the lower indices for Cereals and cereal products, posted at 13.1 percent from 14.1 percent; and Flour, Bread and other Bakery Products, Pasta Products and other Cereals, at -1.5 percent from -1.0 percent last month.
Also contributing to the downtrend in the food index are the commodity groups:
a. Fish and other seafood, -5.5 percent from 3.2 percent;
b. Milk, Other Dairy Products and Eggs, 1.3 percent from 1.7 percent;
c. Fruits and Nuts, -3.2 percent from -0.5 percent; and
d. Sugar, Confectionery, and Desserts, -5.0 percent from -4.4 percent.
On the contrary, higher inflation rates were observed in the following food groups:
a. Meat and Other Parts of Slaughtered Land Animals, 3.4 percent rate from 3.2 percent;
b. Oils and Fats, -4.4 percent inflation rate from -5.0 percent;
c. Vegetables, Tubers, Plantains, Cooking Bananas and Pulses, 2.6 percent from -1.3 percent; and
d. Ready-made Food, and Other Food Products n.e.c., 3.8 percent from 2.0 percent.
