A. Number of Constructions
    
In the MIMAROPA Region, the number of constructions from approved building permits in the third quarter of 2024 estimated at 1,410, translating to an annual increase of 52.3 percent from 926 total number of constructions reported in the same quarter last year. This accounts to a 3.2 percent share to the country’s total number of constructions during the reference quarter.  

Residential buildings had the highest number of constructions

By type of construction, residential buildings reported the highest number of constructions, which recorded to 822 or 58.3 percent of the total number of constructions during the quarter. This translates to 45.5 percent increase from the same quarter of the previous year’s count of 565 constructions. Nearly 23 in every 25 residential constructions or 93.0 percent were single type houses with 758 approved constructions. (Figure 1, Table 1, and Table 3)
 

 

Meanwhile, the non-reside¬ntial type of constructions was the second highest in terms of number of constructions at 417 or 32.4 percent of the total number of constructions during the quarter. This translates to an annual increase of 39.5 percent. More than three in every five non-residential constructions or 60.4 percent were commercial buildings with 271 approved constructions. (Figure 1, Table 1, and Table 4)

On the other hand, alteration and repair of existing structures and addition, which refers to any new construction that increases the height or area of an existing building, contributed 2.4 percent and 1.2 percent to the total number of constructions, respectively. Compared with their respective numbers in the same period of the previous year, both addition, and alteration and repair posted an annual increase of 30.8 percent and 183.3 percent, respectively. (Table 1 and Table 2)


Number of constructions was highest in City of Puerto Princesa

City of Puerto Princesa registered the highest number of constructions at 344 or 24.4 percent share to the total number of constructions in the MIMAROPA Region in the third quarter of 2024. This was followed by Oriental Mindoro with 330 constructions (23.4%) and Palawan (excluding City of Puerto Princesa) with 275 constructions (19.5%). (Figure 2 and Table 2)
 

 

B. Value of Constructions
    
Total value of constructions went up by 26.9 percent

In the third quarter of 2024, the total value of constructions amounted to PhP 3,500.79 million, reflecting an annual growth of 98.4 percent from the PhP 1,764.26 million value of constructions posted in the same quarter of the previous year. (Table 1)

Non-residential-type recorded the highest value of constructions

The value of non-residential building constructions was at PhP 1,931.43 million. This accounts for 55.2 percent of the total value of constructions during the quarter. Moreover, the total value of non-residential building construction was 71.5 percent higher than the PhP 1,126.44 million value recorded in the same quarter of 2023. Among non-residential constructions, institutional buildings had the highest value of constructions at PhP 1,084.42 million (56.1%) and was followed by commercial building constructions whose aggregated value is estimated as PhP 480.30 million (24.9%). (Figure 3, Table 1, and Table 4)

On the other hand, the construction value of residential buildings amounted to PhP 1,435.6 million or 41.0 percent of the total construction value during the quarter. This translates to a 156.8 percent increment from PhP 559.1 million value of constructions reported in the same quarter last year. Among residential constructions, single houses posted the highest value of constructions at PhP 782.75 million (54.5%). (Figure 3, Table 1 and Table 3)
 

 

For this quarter, the construction value for addition to existing structures, and for alteration and repair to existing structures were recorded at PhP 13.91 million (0.4%) and PhP 65.47 million (1.9%), respectively. Compared with their respective value of constructions in the same period of the previous year, addition-type of construction declined by 65.0 percent, while alteration and repair posted 319.7 percent annual growth. (Table 1)


Value of construction of City of Puerto Princesa reached at 42.6 percent

Constructions in the City of Puerto Princesa were valued at PhP 1,486.31 million. This translates to 42.5 percent share to the regional value of constructions during the third quarter of 2024. Oriental Mindoro and Palawan (excluding City of Puerto Princesa) followed with corresponding value of constructions at PhP 773.53 million (22.1%) and PhP 605.53 million (17.3%). (Figure 4 and Table 2)
 

 

C. Floor Area
    
Reported total floor area of constructions increased by 70.7 percent

The total floor area of constructions for this quarter was recorded at 257,378 square meters. This corresponds to an annual increase of 70.7 percent from 150,735 square meters of floor area in the same quarter of the previous year. (Table 1)

Non-residential construction accounted for more than half of the total floor area across all building types

Non-residential constructions recorded 155,134 square meters or 60.3 percent of the total floor area of constructions during the third quarter of 2024. This translates to an annual increase 67.3 percent compared with the previous year’s same quarter floor area of 92,740 square meters. (Figure 5 and Table 1)
 


On the other hand, residential constructions recorded 99,345 square meters or 38.6 percent of the total floor area of constructions this quarter. This reflects an annual increment of 77.3 percent from the aggregated 56,033 square meters of floor area in the same quarter of 2023. (Figure 5 and Table 1)


D. Average Cost per Square Meter

Average cost of construction went up by 14.8 percent

The average cost of construction in the third quarter of 2024, excluding those for alteration and repair, and other constructions, was estimated at PhP 13,135.98 per square meter. It increased by 14.8 percent compared with the average cost of PhP 11,445.54 in the third quarter of 2023. (Table 1)

Residential structures had the highest average cost of construction

Among types of construction, residential constructions had the highest average cost of PhP 14,450.37 per square meter during the quarter. This was followed by non-residential constructions with PhP 12,450.09 per square meter, and addition to existing structures with PhP 4,797.56 per square meter. (Table 1)

Residential condominium was the most expensive among types of residential construction

Among residential constructions, residential condominium posted the highest average cost of PhP 27,302.30 per square meter during the quarter, while duplex/quadruplex recorded the lowest average cost of PhP 9,647.66 per square meter. (Figure 6)
 

 

Industrial buildings were the costliest among non-residential constructions

For this quarter, among non-residential constructions, industrial buildings reported the highest average cost of PhP 17,237.50 per square meter. On the other hand, commercial buildings registered the lowest average cost of PhP 9,695.43 per square meter. (Figure 6)
