12 February 2024 – ROMBLON, ROMBLON. As part of the celebration of the 34th Civil Registration Month with a theme “CRVS: The Future of Seamless Service”, the Philippine Statistics Authority - Romblon Statistical Office conducted information dissemination regarding Civil Registration Laws and Updates and Birth Registration Assistance Project (BRAP) at Romblon State University - San Fernando Campus, Brgy. Poblacion, San Fernando, Romblon on February 8, 2024.

The activity started with a welcoming message from Dr. Carmen Riva, the Dean of Instructions of the Campus. She expressed her gratitude to PSA for organizing the program, noting that it is highly significant, relevant, and educational—especially for the students, and faculty members, as well.

Engr. Johnny F. SolisChief Statistical Specialist of PSA Romblon, discussed background information about Civil Registration including special laws that affects the implementation of efficient civil registration in the country, including its updates. RA 9048 (correction of clerical error or typographical error in an entry and/or change the first name or nickname), RA 10172 (correction of clerical or typographical errors in the day and month in the date of birth or sex of a person), and RA 9255( An Act Allowing Illegitimate Children to Use the Surname of the Father) were given proper discussion. 

Further, Birth Registration Assistance Project (BRAP), a project that offers free birth registration to persons belonging to marginalized sectors, was briefly discussed by Engr. Marie V. FallarcunaPSA Romblon PhilSys Focal Person.

An open forum about the issues and queries related to civil registration followed. Students and faculty members raised questions and were given appropriate answers. 

The annual observance of CRM is pursuant to Proclamation No. 682 “Declaring the Month of February of Every Year as Civil Registration Month” issued by then President Corazon C. Aquino dated January 28, 1991.
