The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) will be conducting the second round (January 2023) of the Survey on Costs and Returns (SCR) of Palay Production. The survey is in collaboration with the Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) of the Department of Agriculture (DA).

The data collection across the province of Occidental Mindoro for the second round will be on 06 to 17 February 2023. The sample selection is determined based on the samples who harvested palay during the reference period. The household samples were randomly selected using a simple random sampling from the list of samples of the 2022 Palay Production Survey (PPS).

The sample households will be interviewed face-to-face using a paperand-pencil interview (PAPI) by four (4) well-trained Statistical Researchers. In this regard, PSA Occidental Mindoro enjoins sample households to support the second round of the SCR of Palay Production by providing truthful and complete necessary information.

The SCR of Palay production generates up-to-date data on the cost structure of palay production and the average use of materials and labor inputs. It determines indicators of profitability as well as the other socioeconomic indicators associated with palay farming in the country. It also serves as benchmark data, needed in the database's annual updating on costs and returns of palay production.

Data items to be collected from this undertaking comprise: a.) basic characteristics of the sample farmer, the farm, and the farmer's household; b.) farm investments; c.) material inputs; d.) labor inputs; e.) other production costs; f.) production and disposition; g.) basic marketing and credit information; h.) access to support services; i.) problems related to production and marketing; j.) basic information on effects of climate change; k.) recommendations and plans.
