29 October 2024 – BOAC, MARINDUQUE. The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Marinduque Provincial Statistical Office, in partnership with the Provincial Government of Marinduque and Provincial Planning and Development Office, successfully hosted a two-day training program titled "Understanding Data and Basic Statistics with Data Visualization Using Infographics." Held on 29-30 October 2024, at the Marinduque Provincial Capitol, the event brought together a diverse group of participants, including government staffs and representatives from various agencies. This initiative formed a central part of the 35th National Statistics Month celebrations, underscoring the essential role of statistics in supporting national development and guiding policy decisions.
Opening the event, Ms. Lanie M. Reyes, representing Ms. Marian Cunan, EnP, PPDO and PSC Chairperson, welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of building statistical capacity. This was followed by a message delivered by a representative of Hon. Presbitero J. Velasco Jr., Governor of Marinduque, along with Chief Statistical Specialist Ms. Gemma N. Opis. Collectively, they emphasized the critical role of the training in enhancing data literacy and empowering local stakeholders to make data-driven decisions, improving community services.
Throughout the program, attendees engaged in detailed sessions covering the fundamentals of data analysis, introductory statistics, and the art of creating impactful infographics. The second day featured an interactive workshop that allowed participants to apply their learning through hands-on exercises in data visualization and infographic design. Participants later presented their outputs, showcasing their newly developed skills in conveying complex information visually.
The event concluded with closing remarks from Supervising Statistical Specialist Mr. Orlando Mercene, who expressed sincere appreciation to the participants, speakers, and organizers for their dedication and active involvement. This was followed by an awarding ceremony to recognize participants’ commitment and engagement throughout the training, reinforcing the program's success in promoting data literacy.
Through this collaborative effort, the PSA PSO Marinduque and the Provincial Government are fostering a culture of evidence-based decision-making crucial for sustainable development. By empowering local stakeholders with practical knowledge in data utilization, this initiative contributes to the overarching goal of building a more informed and empowered nation.
