31 October 2024 – BOAC, MARINDUQUE. The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Marinduque Provincial Statistical Office marked the successful conclusion of the 35th National Statistics Month (NSM) celebration with a closing ceremony held on 31 October 2024, at the PSA Marinduque Provincial Statistical Office. The event highlighted the achievements of this year’s NSM and underscored the essential role of statistics in governance and development, despite challenging weather conditions due to a recent typhoon.
This year’s NSM theme, “Advancing Data and Statistics Through Digital Transformation: A Road to an Empowered Nation,” emphasized the importance of digital transformation in utilizing data to support informed decision-making. Throughout the month of October, PSA PSO Marinduque hosted activities and events to promote data literacy and encourage stakeholders to embrace data-driven approaches in policy making and program planning.
The closing ceremony began with a message from Chief Statistical Specialist Gemma N. Opis who warmly welcomed participants and commended the resilience of all stakeholders, partners, and staff who worked tirelessly to make the 35th NSM a success. In her message, CSS Opis expressed gratitude to those who participated despite the adverse weather conditions, acknowledging their commitment to the importance of statistics in empowering communities.
PSA RSSO MIMAROPA Regional Director Leni R. Rioflorido delivered an inspirational message, reminding attendees of the role of statistics in fostering effective governance and community development. Her words encouraged everyone to continue striving toward a data-driven approach in their respective fields, stressing that data and statistics are not only tools but also pathways to informed decision-making and sustainable development. RD Rioflorido highlighted the importance of collaboration among government agencies, local stakeholders, and the private sector, reinforcing that each person has a role to play in advancing statistical knowledge and application for the betterment of the community.
The ceremony also featured a video recap of the 35th NSM’s activities, which brought to light the month’s significant initiatives and events. This presentation served as a reminder of the collaborative efforts and determination that overcame the logistical challenges brought by recent weather disturbances. PSA PSO Marinduque extended its heartfelt appreciation to everyone involved, expressing that the success of the NSM is a testament to the community's dedication and adaptability.
An intermission number performed by representatives from PhilSys lifted spirits and brought a celebratory atmosphere to the room, underscoring the sense of unity fostered through the NSM’s activities.
Senior Statistical Specialist Imelda M. Miciano delivered the closing remarks, expressing deep appreciation for the resilience and enthusiasm demonstrated by participants, organizers, and partners alike. She encouraged all attendees to carry forward the lessons and skills acquired during the NSM, emphasizing that their collective commitment to data literacy is vital for Marinduque’s progress and growth.
