Oriental Mindoro recorded 238.5 thousand housing units in 2020

Based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH), a total of 238,491 housing units were listed in the province of Oriental Mindoro. Of this total, 212,416 housing units were occupied by households / household population as of 01 May 2020.  Between 2020 CPH and 2015 Census of Population (PopCen), the total number of housing units went up by 32,060 or 15.5 percent. Moreover, a total of 53,307 housing units or 28.8 percent were added from the reported 104,377 housing units in 2010. (Figure 1 and Table A)

Between census years 2020 and 2015, the number of occupied housing units increased by 23,428 or 12.4 percent. In 1960, the reported total number of occupied housing units was 41,160, that is, 11.8 percent of the number of occupied housing units in the province in the 2020 CPH. (Figure 2 and Table B)

Occupancy rate was posted at 90.9 percent

In the province of Oriental Mindoro, the occupancy rate or the ratio of the total occupied housing units to the total number of housing units in 2020 was posted at 89.1 percent. This was 1.3 percentage point higher than the MIMAROPA Region’s 87.8 percent occupancy rate. The province’s occupancy rate five years ago was higher at 91.6 percent. This means that there were more vacant housing units in 2015 than in 2020. (Table 1)

Among its municipalities, Bulalacao and Mansalay posted the highest occupancy rate of 94.1 percent each in 2020. Socorro ranked third with 92.4 percent occupancy rate. Meanwhile, the lowest occupancy rate was recorded in Puerto Galera at 82.2 percent. (Table 1)

City of Calapan had the greatest number of occupied housing units

The top three municipalities with the largest population sizes are also the top three municipalities in terms of number of occupied housing units. The City of Calapan had the highest number of occupied housing units in the province at 34,644. Said municipality had 16.3 percent share of the total occupied housing units in the province. (Table 1)

Naujan ranked second with 26,317 occupied housing units (12.4%), and Pinamalayan came in third with 20,926 (9.9%). Meanwhile, San Teodoro which had the smallest population size in the province, recorded the least number of occupied housing units at 4,500 (2.1%). (Table 1)

There were 101 households per 100 occupied housing units in the province

A total of 215,071 households were recorded in the province in 2020. This translates to 101 households in every 100 occupied housing units, which was equal to the reported ratio in 2015. (Table 2)

Across the province, Puerto Galera recorded the highest ratio of 103 households for every 100 occupied housing units. Five other municipalities exceeded the provincial ratio of households per 100 occupied housing units. These are Bongabong, Pinamalayan, Pola, Roxas, and Socorro each with 102 households per 100 housing units. Meanwhile, the municipalities of Gloria, Mansalay and San Teodoro had the lowest ratio of 100 households per 100 occupied housing units. (Table 2 and Table B)

There were 4.3 persons per occupied housing units

On the average, there were 4.3 persons per occupied housing unit in Oriental Mindoro. This was lower than the estimated 4.4 persons recorded in 2015. (Figure 3, Table C and Table D)

Across the province, Bulalacao posted the highest ratio of 4.6 persons for every occupied housing unit. This was followed by Mansalay and Roxas each with a ratio of 4.4 persons per occupied housing unit. These municipalities had their household population to occupy housing unit ratio higher than Oriental Mindoro’s ratio. Meanwhile, Pola had the lowest ratio of 4.0 persons per occupied unit. (Figure 3 and Table C)
