Headline inflation or the annual rate of change on the prices of goods and services in the market basket in Oriental Mindoro slowed down to 3.7 percent in January 2025 from 4.9 percent in December 2024. (Table 1)

The slower inflation rate in the province for the month of January 2025 was mainly influenced by the slower annual year-on-year growth in the index of food and non-alcoholic beverages at 4.8 percent from 7.3 percent in the previous month. It was followed by restaurants and accommodation services indexed at 1.5 percent from 4.3 percent in December 2024. The lower annual growth rate of health at 1.2 percent in January 2025 from 3.1 percent in the previous month also contributed to the downward trend. (Table 2)

The top five (5) main contributors to the downtrend overall inflation of the province in January 2025 are the following commodities:
1. Meat of pigs, fresh, chilled or frozen, 47.5 percent from 69.8 percent;
2. Electricity, 12.0 percent from 11.4 percent;
3. Meat of poultry, fresh or chilled, 12.9 percent from 15.0 percent;
4. Rentals which retained its previous month’s rate of 3.1 percent; and
5. Tomatoes, 57.6 percent from 62.6 percent.

For food index, it slowed down to 5.0 percent in January 2025 from 7.6 percent in the previous month. In January 2024, food inflation was recorded at 1.7 percent.

The overall inflation for the Bottom 30% Income Households in January 2025 was registered at 4.0 percent from 5.4 percent in December 2024.

 

 

The main sources of deceleration of the January 2025 inflation of Oriental Mindoro for the Bottom 30% Income Households are the slower annual increases in the indices of food and non-alcoholic beverages at 3.0 percent during this month from 5.8 percent in December 2024, and restaurants and accommodation services registered at 1.5 percent in January 2025 from 4.3 percent in the previous month.
