The headline inflation in the City of Puerto Princesa accelerated to 2.0 percent in February 2025, from 1.8 percent in the previous month. In February 2024, inflation rate is higher at 3.6 percent. (Table A and Figure 1)

 

 

The overall inflation rate in Puerto Princesa City is faster at 2.0 percent. The result was primarily brought by the higher index for Housing water electricity gas and other fuels posted at 1.9 percent from -0.9 percent in January 2025. This was followed by Health at 5.4 percent from 1.2 percent and Transport which posted an inflation rate of 0.8 percent from 0.3 percent.

Also contributing to the uptrend is the faster annual increment in Restaurants and accommodation services with 8.7 percent from 8.4 percent, Information and communication, which registered a -0.2 percent inflation rate from -0.5 percent in the previous month, Personal care and miscellaneous goods and services at 2.8 percent from 2.7 percent, and Recreation sport and culture at 2.8 percent from 2.5 percent.

Meanwhile, lower inflation rates were observed in the indices of Food and Non-alcoholic beverages at 1.0 percent from 2.4 percent; Alcoholic beverages and tobacco at 1.6 percent from 2.2 percent; Clothing and Footwear at 0.8 percent from 1.2 percent; and Furnishings household equipment and routine household maintenance at 1.9 percent from 2.5 percent.

On the other hand, Education and Financial Services retained its previous month’s levels with zero percent inflation.

Food index for February 2025 decelerated to 0.7 percent inflation rate from 2.3 percent in the previous month. In February 2024, the food index was higher, at 1.5 percent inflation rate, (Table C).

The slowdown of the food inflation for the month was brought about by the lower index for Cereals and cereal products at -6.4 percent inflation rate, from -3.4 percent last month. This was followed by Fish and other seafood at 2.3 percent inflation rate, from 8.4 percent. Also contributing to the slowdown are Ready-made food and other food products which declined to 4.7 percent inflation rate, from 5.5 percent in the previous month.

Lower annual increments were also observed in the following commodity groups; Oil and fats with -1.0 percent inflation from -0.6 percent; Fruits and nuts with 10.5 percent inflation from 10.6 percent; and Flour bread and other bakery products pasta products and other cereals with 2.7 percent inflation from 2.9 percent inflation.

In contrast, higher inflation rates were observed in the following food groups:
a) Meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals, 7.1 percent from 4.9 percent;
b) Milk and other dairy products and eggs, 2.8 percent from 1.7 percent;
c) Vegetables tubers plantains cooking bananas and pulses, 7.7 percent from 6.3 percent;
d) Sugar, confectionery and desserts, 0.3 percent from -0.5 percent.
