MARINDUQUE PROVINCIAL STATISTICAL OFFICE. The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Marinduque Provincial Statistical Office (PSO) is currently conducting the Quarterly Commercial Fisheries Survey (QCFS) and Quarterly Municipal Fisheries Survey (QMFS) from 01 July 2025 to 27 September 2025.
The QCFS and QMFS are surveys conducted within different subsectors of the fisheries industry, distinguished by the scale and location of their operations. QCFS covers fishing activities conducted in marine waters beyond 15 kilometers from shore, utilizing commercial fishing boats with a gross tonnage of over three tons. In contrast, the QMFS focuses on fishing activities within 15 kilometers from the shore, using municipal fishing boats with three gross tons or less, including non-motorized and motorized vessels.
Both surveys gather data on the volume and market prices of fish species landed at the commercial and municipal landing centers. They also collect information on fishing gear, effort, and grounds. The primary objective is to produce statistics on the volume and value of commercial and municipal fisheries production by species, disaggregated at the provincial, regional, and national levels.
Marinduque has 13 designated traditional landing centers located in selected barangays throughout the province. Of these, three were sampled for the QCFS and 10 for the QMFS. These landing centers serve as key points where fisherfolk can dock their boats and unload or sell their catch, free of charge.
To ensure the successful operations of the surveys, nine Statistical Researchers (SRs) were deployed to conduct face-to-face interviews with qualified fisherfolk respondents.
According to Section 19 of Republic Act No. 10173, or the “Data Privacy Act of 2012,” all collected information will be kept strictly confidential. Additionally, Section 26 of RA No. 10625 states that individual data provided to the PSA for statistical inquiries, surveys, and censuses is considered privileged communication and cannot be used as evidence in any legal proceedings.
