Other land transport industry group had led in terms of number of establishments

The Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) final results showed that a total of 30 establishments in the formal sector of the economy were engaged in transportation and storage activities in 2021. This represents a decline of -37.5 percent from the 48 establishments recorded in 2020. (Table A)

Among industry groups, other land transport posted the highest number of 12 establishments (40.0%). This was followed by support activities for transportation with 10 establishments (33.3%) and courier activities with four establishments (13.3%).  (Figure 1 and Table 1)

Courier activities industry group employed the highest number of workers

The total employment in the transportation and storage section of the MIMAROPA Region was recorded at 708 workers as of 15 November 2021. This indicates a decline of -20.8 percent from the 894 workers reported on the same date in 2020. Among industry groups, courier activities registered the highest employment of 337 workers and a 47.6 percent share to the total employment of the transportation and storage section in the region. This was followed by support activities for transportation with a total of 179 workers (25.3%) and other land transport with a total of 155 workers (21.9%). (Figure 2)

The section recorded an average of 24 workers per establishment in 2021. This represents a 26.7 percent increase from the reported 19 workers per establishment in the previous year. (Table A and Table 2)

Among industry groups, courier activities had the highest average employment of 84 workers per establishment. Moreover, this was the only industry group under this section in the region that surpassed the regional employment per establishment ratio of 24 workers per establishment. Meanwhile, support activities for transportation and other land transport followed with an average employment of 18 workers and 13 workers per establishment, respectively. (Table 2)


Other land transport industry group paid the highest average annual compensation per paid employee

In 2021, the total compensation paid by the section to its employees amounted to PhP 86.14 million. This translates to an average annual compensation of PhP 124,841 per paid employee, which indicates a -18.4 percent decrease from the recorded average annual pay of PhP 152,939 per paid employee in 2020. By industry group, employees from other land transport received the highest average annual compensation of PhP 160,141 per paid employee in 2021. This was followed by courier activities, and support activities for transportation with an average annual compensation per paid employee of PhP 119,422 and PhP 96,241, respectively. (Figure 3 and Table 2)


Courier activities industry group contributed the major share to the total revenue and total expense

The total revenue generated by the transportation and storage section in 2021 reached PhP 481.80 million, indicating a decline of -1.2 percent from the PhP 487.85 million reported revenue in 2020. On the other hand, the total expense incurred by the section amounted to PhP 427.90 million in 2021, which shows a -2.1 percent decrease from the PhP 437.12 million total expense posted in 2020. Among industry groups, courier contributed the highest share to the section’s total revenue amounting to PhP 481.80 million (42.2%) in 2021. Support activities for transportation and other land transport followed with a corresponding total revenue of PhP 155.66 million (32.3%) and PhP 68.97 million (14.3%). (Table A & 1)

In terms of expenses, the top spender was courier activities industry group with PhP 193.76 million. This translates to a 45.3 percent share to the section’s total expenses. Support activities for transportation and other land transport came next with incurred total expenses of PhP 125.79 million (29.4%) and PhP 58.37 million (13.6%), respectively. (Table B)


Courier activities industry group contributed the major share to the total revenue and total expense

In 2021, the revenue per peso expense ratio of the transportation and storage section was recorded at 1.13, which reflects an increase of 0.9 percent from the recorded 1.12 revenue per expense ratio in 2020. This indicates that for every peso spent in 2021, the section generated a corresponding revenue of PhP 1.00. (Table A and Table 2)

By industry group, support activities for transportation registered the highest revenue per peso expense ratio of 1.24. Other land transport and courier activities followed with a recorded revenue per peso expense ratio of 1.18 and 1.05, respectively.  (Table 2)
