Volume of carabao production decreases by 7.7 percent

The volume of carabao production during October to December 2024 in the MIMAROPA Region was estimated at 1,174 metric tons, liveweight. Relative to the same period of 2023, carabao production posted a 7.7 percent decline from 1,280 metric tons, liveweight in the same period of 2023. Furthermore, production of carabaos during the fourth quarter of 2023 was 0.6 percent lower than the estimated production in the same quarter of 2022. (Figure 1, Table A and Table B)
 

 

Among five provinces in the region, Palawan was the leading producer of carabao, with 442.20 metric tons of liveweight, accounting for 37.2 percent of the total carabao production during the period. It was followed by Marinduque, which produced 323.62 metric tons of liveweight, or 27.6 percent of the total. In contrast, Romblon had the lowest production, with 42.84 metric tons of liveweight, making up 3.6 percent of the region’s total carabao production. (Figure 1)

Cattle production rose by 15.9 percent

From October to December 2024, the MIMAROPA region recorded a cattle production of 3,579.06 metric tons, liveweight. This reflects a 16.0 percent increase compared to the 3,089.22 metric tons, liveweight produced during the same quarter last year. The current production level marks a continued recovery, building on the 15.9 percent growth observed in the same quarter of 2023.
 

 

Occidental Mindoro is the top cattle producer among the five provinces in the region, contributing 1,427.10 metric tons of liveweight, or 39.9 percent of the total cattle production for the reference quarter. Palawan ranked second with 1,200.15 metric tons of liveweight, representing 33.5 percent of the total. Meanwhile, Romblon had the lowest cattle production, with 201.31 metric tons of liveweight, accounting for 5.6 percent share. (Figure 2)

Goat production decreased by 15.4 percent

The volume of goat production from October to December 2024 in the MIMAROPA region was registered at 562.57 metric tons, liveweight. This indicates an annual decrease of 15.4 percent from the same quarter of the previous year's level of 664.88 metric tons, liveweight. This level of production was a continuous decline from the 2.6 percent decrease observed in the same quarter in 2023. (Figure 3)
 

 

The top goat producer among the provinces in the region was Palawan, contributing 268.26 metric tons of liveweight, or 47.7 percent of the total goat production for the reference quarter. It was followed by Occidental Mindoro with 171.87 metric tons of liveweight, accounting for 30.6 percent of the total. Meanwhile, Oriental Mindoro recorded the least goat production, with 10.04 metric tons of liveweight, contributing only 1.8 percent of the total. ( Figure 3)

Volume of hog production decreased by 27.3 percent

The volume of hog production from October to December 2024 in the MIMAROPA region was registered at 22.90 thousand metric tons, liveweight. This indicates an annual decline of 27.3 percent from the 31.48 thousand metric tons, liveweight output in the same period of 2023. This level of production rose from the 14.2 percent increase in the same quarter in 2023. (Figure 4)
 

 

Of the five provinces in the region, Palawan was the leading hog producer, with 16.73 thousand metric tons of liveweight, accounting for 73.0 percent of the total hog production during the period. Marinduque placed second, producing 2.28 thousand metric tons of liveweight. In contrast, Occidental Mindoro had the smallest production, with 592 metric tons of liveweight, representing 2.6 percent of the region's total hog production.(Figure 4)
