Marinduque recorded 68.2 thousand housing units in 2020
Based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH), a total of 56,649 housing units were listed in the province of Marinduque. Of this total, 59,263 housing units were occupied by households / household population as of 01 May 2020. Between 2020 CPH and 2015 Census of Population (PopCen), the total number of housing units went up by 7,316 or 12.0 percent. Moreover, a total of 11,597 housing units or 20.5 percent were added from the reported 56,649 housing units in 2010. (Figure 1 and Table A)
Between census years 2020 and 2015, the number of occupied housing units increased by 4,922 or 9.1 percent. In 1960, the reported total number of occupied housing units was 20,251, that is, 34.2 percent of the number of occupied housing units in the province in the 2020 CPH. (Figure 2 and Table B)
Occupancy rate was posted at 86.8 percent
In the province of Marinduque, the occupancy rate or the ratio of the total occupied housing units to the total number of housing units in 2020 was posted at 86.8 percent. This was 1.0 percentage point lower than the MIMAROPA Region’s 87.8 percent occupancy rate. The province’s occupancy rate five years ago was higher at 89.2 percent. This means that there were more vacant housing units in 2020 than in 2015. (Table 1)
Among its municipalities, Gasan posted the highest occupancy rate of 88.2 percent in 2020. Mogpog ranked second with 87.7 percent occupancy rate. Meanwhile, the lowest occupancy rate was recorded in the Santa Cruz at 85.3 percent. (Table 1)
Santa Cruz had the greatest number of occupied housing units
The top three municipalities with the largest population sizes are also the top three regions in terms of number of occupied housing units. Santa Cruz had the highest number of occupied housing units in the province at 14,085. Said municipality had 23.8 percent share of the total occupied housing units in the province. (Table 1)
Boac ranked second with 13,824 occupied housing units (23.3%), and Mogpog came in third with 8,914 (15.0%). Meanwhile, Buenavista which had the smallest population size in the province, recorded the least number of occupied housing units at
6,115 (10.3%). (Table 1)
There were 102 households per 100 occupied housing units in the region
A total of 60,547 households were recorded in the region in 2020. This translates to 102 households in every 100 occupied housing units, which was higher than the reported ratio in 2015. (Table 2)
Across the province, Boac and Gasan recorded the highest ratio of 103 households for every 100 occupied housing units. Meanwhile, Mogpog and Torrijos had the lowest ratio of 101 households per 100 occupied housing units. (Table 2 and Table B)
There were 4.0 persons per occupied housing units
On the average, there were 4.0 persons per occupied housing unit in Marinduque. This was lower than the estimated 4.3 persons recorded in 2015. (Figure 3, Table C and Table D)
Across the province, Buenavista posted the highest ratio of 4.3 persons for every occupied housing unit. This was followed by Boac, Gasan, and Torrijos each with a ratio of 4.1 persons per occupied housing unit. These municipalities had their household population to occupied housing unit ratio higher than Marinduque’s ratio. Meanwhile, Mogpog and Santa Cruz had the lowest ratio of 3.9 persons per occupied unit. (Figure 3 and Table C)
