Romblon recorded 85.7 thousand housing units in 2020
Based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH), a total of 85,723 housing units were listed in the province of Romblon. Of this total, 75,895 housing units were occupied by households / household population as of 01 May 2020. Between 2020 CPH and 2015 Census of Population (PopCen), the total number of housing units went up by 11,212 or 15.1 percent. Moreover, a total of 17,985 housing units or 26.6 percent were added from the reported 67,768 housing units in 2010. (Figure 1 and Table A)
Between census years 2020 and 2015, the number of occupied housing units increased by 7,924 or 11.7 percent. In 1960, the reported total number of occupied housing units was 23,575, that is, 31.1 percent of the number of occupied housing units in the province in the 2020 CPH. (Figure 2 and Table B)
Occupancy rate was posted at 88.5 percent
In the province of Romblon, the occupancy rate or the ratio of the total occupied housing units to the total number of housing units in 2020 was posted at 88.5 percent. This was 0.8 percentage points higher than the MIMAROPA Region’s 87.8 percent occupancy rate. The province’s occupancy rate five years ago was higher at 91.2 percent. This means that there were more vacant housing units in 2020 than in 2015. (Table 1)
Among its municipalities, San Jose posted the highest occupancy rate of 94.9 percent in 2020. Eight other municipalities exceeded the province’s occupancy rate, namely: Santa Fe (90.9%), Alcantara (89.8%), Ferrol (89.4%), San Agustin (89.4%), San Fernando (89.1%), Calatrava (88.9%), Cajidiocan (88.8%), and Romblon (88.6%). Meanwhile, the lowest occupancy rate was recorded in Banton at 77.4 percent. (Table 1)
Odiongan had the greatest number of occupied housing units
The top two municipalities with the largest population sizes are also the top two areas in terms of number of occupied housing units. Odiongan had the highest number of occupied housing units in the province at 12,686. Said municipality had 16.7 percent share of the total occupied housing units in the province. (Table 1)
Romblon, the capital of the province, ranked second with 10,177 occupied housing units (13.4%). San Agustin came in third with 5,839 occupied housing units (7.7%). Meanwhile, Concepcion which had the smallest population size in the province, recorded the least number of occupied housing units at 1,053 (1.4%). (Table 1)
There were 102 households per 100 occupied housing units
A total of 77,635 households were recorded in the province in 2020. This translates to 102 households in every 100 occupied housing units, which was higher than the reported ratio in 2015. (Table 2)
Across the province, Santa Maria recorded the highest ratio of 110 households for every 100 occupied housing units. Four other municipalities exceeded the provincial ratio of households per 100 occupied housing units. These are Cajidiocan with 108 households per 100 occupied housing units, San Jose with 108 households per 100 occupied housing units, and Magdiwang and Santa Fe each with 103 households per 100 occupied housing units. Relative to the ratio in 2015, ten municipalities in Romblon posted an increase in their ratio of number of households per 100 occupied housing units. These include Santa Maria, Cajidiocan, San Jose, Magdiwang, Santa Fe, Romblon, San Agustin, Looc, San Andres and Ferrol. Meanwhile, only the municipality of Calatrava exhibited a decline in the ratio of households per 100 occupied housing units. (Table 2 and Table B)
There were 4.1 persons per occupied housing units
On the average, there were 4.1 persons per occupied housing unit in Romblon. This was lower than the estimated 4.3 persons recorded in 2015. (Figure 3, Table C and Table D)
Across the province, the municipalities of San Fernando, San Jose and Magdiwang posted the highest ratio of 4.4 persons for every occupied housing unit. In addition, Calatrava and Cajidiocan each with 4.3 persons per occupied housing unit exceeded the provincial ratio. Meanwhile, Concepcion had the lowest ratio of 3.4 persons per occupied housing unit. (Figure 3 and Table C)
