Language/Dialects Spoken in Baco, Oriental Mindoro
(2020 Census of Population and Housing)

 

Tagalog is the language generally spoken in 9,182 households in Baco, Oriental Mindoro

Based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH), Tagalog is spoken in 8,195 households or 89.3 percent of the 9,182 households in the municipality. Mangyan-Alangan was the second most generally spoken language at home with 925 households or 10.1 percent, followed by Mangyan-Iraya with 27 households or 0.3 percent. (Figure 1)

 

 

Other languages/dialects such as T’Duray/Teduray, Sama Laut, Mangyan-Tadyawan, Boholano, American/English, Batangan, and Dumagat-Edimala were generally spoken in 25 househols or 0.27 percent of the total households in the municipality. (Table 1)

Of the 27 barangays in the municipality of Baco, Oriental Mindoro, Alag, Lumang Bayan, Malapad, Pambisan, Pulang-Tubig, Putican-Cabulo, and San Andres were the most homogeneous in terms of language/dialect spoken by their households, with all households generally speaking Tagalog at home (100.0 percent). Tabon-tabon and Catwiran I followed with 99.7 percent, each. Meanwhile, San Ignacio had 57.7 percent of its households speaking Mangyan-Alangan as the primary language at home, with only 42.1 percent speaking Tagalog. (Table 2)

As for the second language/dialect spoken at home, Mangyan-Alangan was reported to be highest in the barangays of Santa Cruz, Bangkatan, Tagumpay, and Water, with 36.6 percent, 14.4 percent, 12.9 percent, and 10.8 percent, respectively. (Table 2)

The third language/dialect spoken at home was Mangyan Iraya. This was reported to be highest in the barangays of Bayanan, Mayabig, Santa Rosa I, and Catwiran II, with a total of 4.1 percent. (Table 2)

In 2020, two households in the municipality of Baco, Oriental Mindoro, primarily spoke a foreign language at home. This constituted 0.02 percent of the municipality's total number of households not enumerated as homeless during the census. (Table 3)

Household is a social unit consisting of a person or a group of persons who sleep in the same housing unit and have a common arrangement in the preparation and consumption of food.

Language/dialect generally spoken at home refers to the language or dialect generally used or spoken by the members of the household most of the time at home. It provides a measure of the linguistic homogeneity or difference in the population. Specifically, it measures the extent of the actual use of a language/dialect within a household. The Philippines' official languages are Filipino and English.
