Volume of carabao production down by 10.4 percent
The volume of carabao production from July to September 2024 in the MIMAROPA region was noted at 1,198 metric tons, liveweight. This indicates an annual decline of 10.4 percent from the 1,336 metric tons, liveweight output in the same period of 2023. This level of production was a decline from the 5.6 percent annual increase in the same quarter in 2023. (Figure 1)
Among the five provinces in the region, Palawan was the leading producer of carabao, with 576 metric tons of liveweight, accounting for 48.1 percent of the total carabao production during the period. It was followed by Occidental Mindoro, which produced 249 metric tons of liveweight, or 14.0 percent of the total. In contrast, Romblon had the lowest production, with 50 metric tons of liveweight, making up 4.2 percent of the region’s total carabao production.
Cattle production rose by 0.3 percent
From July to September 2024, the MIMAROPA region recorded a cattle production of 2,402 metric tons, liveweight. This reflects a 0.3 percent increase compared to the 2,394 metric tons, liveweight produced during the same quarter last year. The current production level marks a continued recovery, building on the 4.8 percent growth observed in the same quarter of 2023. (Figure 2)
Palawan is the top cattle producer among the five provinces in the region, contributing 1,285 metric tons of liveweight, or 53.5 percent of the total cattle production for the reference quarter. Oriental Mindoro ranked second with 355 metric tons of liveweight, representing 14.8 percent of the total. Meanwhile, Marinduque had the lowest cattle production, with 188 metric tons of liveweight, accounting for 7.8 percent share.
Goat production increased by 9.2 percent
The volume of goat production from July to September 2024 in the MIMAROPA region was registered at 474 metric tons, liveweight. This indicates an annual growth rate of 9.2 percent from the same quarter of the previous year's level of 434 metric tons, liveweight. This level of production was a continuous recovery from the 3.7 percent increase observed in the same quarter in 2023. (Figure 3)
The top goat producer among the provinces in the region was Palawan, contributing 271 metric tons of liveweight, or 57.2 percent of the total goat production for the reference quarter. It was followed by Occidental Mindoro with 134 metric tons of liveweight, accounting for 28.2 percent of the total. Meanwhile, Oriental Mindoro recorded the least goat production, with 6 metric tons of liveweight, contributing only 1.3 percent of the total.
Volume of hog production decreased by 29.2 percent
The volume of hog production from July to September 2024 in the MIMAROPA region was registered at 20,919 metric tons, liveweight. This indicates an annual decline of 29.2 percent from the 29,539 metric tons, liveweight output in the same period of 2023. This level of production was a decline from the 52.0 percent annual increase in the same quarter in 2023. (Figure 4)
Of the five provinces in the region, Palawan was the leading hog producer, with 13,382 metric tons of liveweight, accounting for 64.0 percent of the total hog production during the period. Oriental Mindoro placed second, producing 2,787 metric tons of liveweight. In contrast, Occidental Mindoro had the smallest production, with 972 metric tons of liveweight, representing 4.6 percent of the region's total hog production.
