
Headline inflation or the annual rate of change on the prices of goods and services in the market basket in Oriental Mindoro slowed down further to 1.6 percent in May 2025 from 2.7 percent in the previous month. (Table 1)
The downtrend in the overall inflation in the province was mainly brought about by the lower annual increment in housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels at 2.3 percent during the month from 5.1 percent in April 2025. This was followed by food and non-alcoholic beverages indexed at 2.5 percent from 3.2 percent in April 2025. The annual decrease of restaurants and accommodation services at 1.6 percent in May 2025 from 3.2 percent in April 2025 also contributed to the downward trend. (Table 2)
The top five (5) main contributors to the downtrend overall inflation of the province in May 2025 are the following commodities:
1. Meat of pigs, fresh, chilled or frozen, 31.3 percent from 30.2 percent;
2. Rentals, which retained its previous month’s rate of 3.1 percent;
3. Cigarettes, 5.9 percent from 6.8 percent;
4. Restaurants, café and the like, 1.6 percent from 3.2 percent; and
5. Other leafy or stem vegetables, 16.6 percent from 12.4 percent.
For food index in the province, it slowed down to 2.3 percent in May 2025 from 3.1 percent in April 2025. In May 2024, food inflation was slower at 1.9 percent.
The overall inflation for the Bottom 30% Income Households in May 2025 was registered at 1.4 percent from 3.2 percent in the previous month.

The main driver to the slowdown in the inflation rate in Oriental Mindoro for the Bottom 30% Income Households was the lower annual increment in housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels at 1.4 percent during the month from 8.1 percent in April 2025. Also contributed to the deceleration of inflation were the slower inflation rates reported in the index of food and non-alcoholic beverages at 0.8 percent in May 2025 from 1.7 percent in the previous month, and restaurants and accommodation services index at 1.6 percent in May 2025 from a 3.2 percent in April 2025.
