29 January 2024 – ROMBLON, ROMBLON. A total of 238,974 Romblomanons have been on boarded to Step 2 registration of the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) as of 31 December 2023 in the province of Romblon. This represents 85.25 percent of the target registrants in the province as reported by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) PSO Romblon.
In 2023 alone, Engr. Johnny F. Solis, Chief Statistical Specialist of PSA Romblon reported that there was a total of 18,259 Step 2 successful PhilSys registrants. At the end of 4th quarter of 2023, in terms of completed percentage based on the projected target registrants, the municipality of San Andres topped with 91.9 percent. It was followed by Looc and Santa Fe with 91.7 and 90.5 percent, respectively.
Also, PhilSys Romblon closely monitors the registration of Indigenous Peoples (IPs) and Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). At the end of December 2023, the registration teams recorded registrations 2,665 of Ati, 11,585 Bantoanon and 4,497 Sibuyan Mangyan-Tagabukid (SMT). On the other hand, a total of 136 OFWs were captured by the team for the Step 2 registration.
As part of the institutional registration strategy, PSA Romblon continues its close coordination with government agencies and private businesses for the PhilSys registration of their staff, employees, students, customers, and clients. Further, mobile registration is also being implemented at the barangays. Romblomanons, through this strategy, may complete their Step 2 Registration sequentially.
Signed into law by President Rodrigo Duterte in August 2018, Republic Act 11055, or the PhilSys Act, aims to establish a single national ID for all Filipinos and resident aliens.
