Religious Affiliation in City of Calapan, Oriental Mindoro

Roman Catholic account for 88.7 percent of the household population
Of the 145,180 household population in 2020, 128,780 persons (88.7 percent) reported Roman Catholic as their religious affiliation. It was followed by Iglesia Ni Cristo with 4,785 persons or 3.3 percent, and Jesus is Lord Church with 1,171 persons with 0.8 percent. Completing the top ten Religious Affiliations in 2020 in Calapan City were Church of Christ with 0.8 percent, Iglesia Evangelista Methodista en Las Islas Filipinas (IEMELIF) with 0.7 percent, Seventh Day Adventist with 0.4 Percent, Islam and Jehovah’s Witness with 0.3 percent, each, Other Protestant and Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints with 0.2 percent, each.
Barangay Nag-Iba I has the highest proportion of household population with Roman Catholic as religion
Of the 62 Barangays in the City of Calapan, Oriental Mindoro, Barangay Nag-Iba I posted the highest proportion of Roman Catholics comprising 97.9 percent of the household population. It was followed by Barangay Bondoc with 97.6 percent, Barangay Calero with 96.4 percent, Barangay Batino with 96.3 percent, Barangay Maidlang with 96.0 percent, Barangay Malad with 95.6 percent, Barangay Tawagan with 95.5 percent, Barangay Balingayan with 94.9 percent, Barangay Wawa with 94.8 percent and Barangay Baruyan with 94.7 percent. However, Barangay Bayanan I recorded 815 or 68.6 percent had the least number of proportions of household population in Roman Catholic as their religion. (Table 2 and Table 3)
Barangays with at least 90.0 percent of household population who reported Roman Catholic as their religion
Among the 62 Barangays in the City of Calapan Oriental Mindoro, there were thirty-one Barangays with at least 90.0 percent of household population reported Roman Catholic as their religious affiliation. These Barangays were Barangay Nag-Iba I with 97.9 percent, Bondoc with 97.6 percent, Barangay Calero with 96.4, Barangay Batino with 96.3 percent, Barangay Maidlang with 96.0 percent, Barangay Malad with 95.6 percent, Barangay Tawagan with 95.5 percent, Barangay Balingayan with 94.9 percent, Barangay Wawa with 94,8 percent, Barangay Baruyan with 94.7 percent, Barangay Canubing I with 94.4 percent, Barangay Personas with 94.1 percent, Barangay Panggalaan with 93.9, Barangay Lalud with 93.8 percent, Barangay Malamig with 93.5 percent, Barangay Gulod with 93.3 percent, Barangay Parang, Barangay San Antonio and Barangay Sapul with 92.5 percent, each, Barangay Patas with 92.4 percent, Barangay Palhi with 92.1 percent, Barangay Sta. Rita with 91.7 percent, Barangay Ibaba East with 91.6 percent, Barangay Canubing II and Barangay Pachoca with 91.4 each, Barangay Balite with 91.0 percent, Barangay Tawiran with with 90.8 percent, Barangay Buhuan, Barangay Comunal and Barangay Lazareto with 90.7 percent, each and Barangay Masapit with 90.5 percent.
Barangay Libis has the highest proportion of household population with Iglesia ni Cristo as religion
Among the 62 Barangays in the City of Calapan, Oriental Mindoro, Barangay Libis posted the highest proportion of Iglesia ni Cristo with 18.1 percent as their religion. It was followed by Barangay Bayanan I with 17.1 percent, Barangay Bucayao with 10.6 percent, Barangay San Vicente West with 9.7 percent and Barangay Sta. Cruz with 9.3 percent. On the other hand, Barangay Bondoc registered as the least proportion with 0.2 percent of population with Iglesia ni Cristo as religion. (Table 5)
Barangays with Double-Digit Proportion of Household Population Who Reported Iglesia ni Cristo as Their Religious Affiliation
Among the 62 Barangays in the City of Calapan, Oriental Mindoro there were three Barangays with double-digit proportion of household population who reported Iglesia ni Cristo as their religious affiliation. These are Barangay Libis with 18.1 percent, Barangay Bayanan I with 17.1 percent and Barangay Bucayao with 10.6 percent.

Religious Affiliation in the Philippines
(2020 Census of Population and Housing)
The population and housing censuses in the Philippines are conducted on a “de jure” basis, that is, a person is counted in the usual place of residence or the place where the person usually resides. The enumeration of the population and collection of pertinent data in the 2020 CPH referred to all living persons as of 01 May 2020.
For the 2020 CPH, data on the Religious Affiliation of all household members were collected by asking the respondents, “What is ____’s religious affiliation?”.
