7 February 2025 - ROMBLON, ROMBLON. The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reports that Romblon's headline inflation rate decelerated to 0.7% in January 2025, down from 0.9% in December 2024. This continued decline reflects a stable economic environment in the province.


Commodity Group Highlights:
Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages: The inflation rate for this category decreased to -0.2% in January 2025, down from -0.1% in December 2024. This decline indicates a stabilization in the prices of essential food items and beverages. This can be attributed to the local agricultural production in the provincial market.
Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco: This sector saw a deceleration, with the inflation rate dropping to 0.7% in January 2025 from 1.7% in December 2024. The decrease suggests a moderation in the price increases of these products.
Clothing and Footwear: The inflation rate in this category declined to 0.2% in January 2025, compared to 0.6% in December 2024, indicating a slight easing in apparel and footwear prices.
Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and Other Fuels: This group experienced a deceleration, with the inflation rate decreasing to 3.8% in January 2025 from 4.5% in December 2024. The decline is attributed to stabilized utility and housing costs.
Furnishing, Household Equipment, and Routine Maintenance of the House: The inflation rate for this category decreased to -1.2% in January 2025, down from -0.8% in December 2024, indicating a faster decrease in prices for household goods and maintenance services.
Health: The health sector saw a deceleration, with the inflation rate dropping to 0.7% in January 2025 from 1.8% in December 2024, reflecting an overall increase in prices but in slower rate for medical goods and health services.
Throughout 2024, Romblon maintained an average inflation rate of 3.9%, aligning with the national trend of moderating inflation. This is a notable improvement from the average rate of 7.2% observed in 2023.
The continued deceleration of inflation in Romblon suggests increased purchasing power for consumers and a more stable economic environment. Lower inflation rates can enhance consumer confidence and spending, potentially stimulating local economic growth.
