Explanatory Notes The data on the number of marriages presented in this special release were obtained from the vital events registered either timely or belatedly, at the appropriate Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrar throughout the country and subsequently submitted for encoding to the Office of the Civil Registrar General through the Provincial Statistical Offices (PSOs) of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). The information presented includes provisional vital events that occurred from July to September 2023 based on the data files received by the PSA – Civil Registration Service (CRS) from the PSOs and has undergone initial processing as of 31 July 2024. Thus, the figures presented herein are still preliminary and may differ from the final count. The vital events of Filipinos abroad are not yet included in this release, but Filipino whose usual residence is abroad and foreign national with vital events occurring in the country during the refence period were included in this report1. |
One in every 40 registered marriages take place in the MIMAROPA Region
During the third quarter of 2023, there were 2,192 marriages registered in the MIMAROPA Region. This accounts to a 2.7 percent share from the country’s total of 82,525 recorded marriages in July to September of 2023. (Table A)
Among provinces in the region, Palawan (excluding the City of Puerto Princesa) posted the highest number of registered marriages during the third quarter of 2023 at 714. This translates to a 32.6 percent share to the total number of registered live births in the region. Oriental Mindoro closely followed with a total of 702 registered marriages (32.0%). Meanwhile, Marinduque had the lowest number of registered marriages with 131 (6.0%). (Figure 1)
On the other hand, the lone highly urbanized City of Puerto Princesa had a total of 254 recorded marriages in the third quarter of 2023. This translates to 11.6 percent of the total marriages reported in the region. (Figure 1)
Number of registered marriages reduces by 12.5 percent
Compared to the number of marriages reported in third quarter of 2022, the MIMAROPA Region realized a 12.5 percent decline from 2,506 recorded marriages to 2,192 registered marriages in the same quarter of the succeeding year. The region’s annual rate of decline was 7.9 percentage points lower than the national level’s annual rate of decline of 4.6 percent in the total number of registered marriages. (Table A)
Relative to the provincial number of reported marriages during July to September 2022, three provinces and one highly urbanized city contributed to the decrease in the region’s number of registered marriages. Palawan posted the largest decrement of 220 marriages or 23.6 percent from 934 registered marriages during the third quarter of 2022 to 714 registered marriages in the same quarter of 2023. This was followed by Romblon with a decrease of 96 marriages (37.7% decline), City of Puerto Princesa with a reduction of 55 marriages (17.8% decline), and Marinduque with a decrease of 3 marriages (2.2% decline) (Figure 2)
Registered marriages in Marinduque down by 2.2 percent
A total of 131 marriages were reported in Marinduque for the third quarter of 2023. This was 2.2 percent lower than the reported 134 marriages in the same quarter of the previous year. The highest registration was recorded in the month of July with 73 marriages or 55.7 percent share to the province’s total registered marriages in the third quarter of 2023. (Table A and Figure 3)
Registered marriages in Occidental Mindoro go up by 8.4 percent
A total of 232 marriages were reported in Occidental Mindoro for the third quarter of 2023, an 8.4 percent increase from 214 registered marriages in the same period of the previous year. The highest registration was recorded in the month of September with 85 marriages or 36.6 percent share to the province’s total registered marriages in the third quarter of 2023. (Table A and Figure 4)
Registered marriages in Oriental Mindoro increase by 6.4 percent
During July to September 2023, there were 702 marriages recorded in Oriental Mindoro, an increase of 6.4 percent from the reported 660 marriages in the third quarter of the previous year. The highest registration was recorded in the month of July with 300 marriages or 42.7 percent share to the province’s total registered marriages. (Table A and Figure 5)
Registered marriages in Palawan diminish by 23.6 percent
A total of 714 marriages were recorded in Palawan (excluding the City of Puerto Princesa) in the third quarter of 2023. This figure was 23.6 percent lower than the reported 934 marriages in the same quarter of the previous year. The highest registration was recorded in the month of September with 314 marriages or 44.0 percent share to the province’s total registered marriages. (Table A and Figure 6)
Registered marriages in Romblon diminish by 37.6 percent
During the third quarter of 2023, a total of 159 marriages were recorded in the province of Romblon. This was 37.6 percent lower than the reported 159 marriages in the same quarter of the previous year. The highest registration was recorded in the month of August with 67 marriages or 42.1 percent share to the province’s total registered marriages. (Table A and Figure 7)
Registered marriages in the City of Puerto Princesa down by 24.3 percent
A total of 254 marriages were recorded in the City of Puerto Princesa during July to September 2023, a 21.7 percent decline from the reported 309 marriages in the same quarter of the previous year. The highest registration was recorded in the month of July with 94 marriages or 37.0 percent share to the city’s total registered marriages. (Table A and Figure 8)
