Table A. Year-on-Year Inflation Rates: Philippines, MIMAROPA, and Palawan All Items, In Percent (2018=100)

Palawan

Headline inflation for the province of Palawan maintained at 9.9 percent for December 2022, the same annual growth rate recorded in November 2022. This brings the average inflation rate for the year at 8.2 percent. Inflation in December 2021 was lower at 2.0 percent. (Table A and Figure 1)

Higher annual growth rates of the following commodities were registered in December 2022:

a. Food and Non-alcoholic Beverages, 13.6 percent;

b. Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels, 4.9 percent;

c. Clothing and Footwear, 8.7 percent;

d. Furnishings,    Household    Equipment    and    Routine    Household Maintenance, 8.1 percent;

e. Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, 6.8 percent;

f. Health, 5 percent;

g. Recreation, Sport and Culture, 10.4 percent; and

h. Information and Communication, 1.9 percent.

On the other hand, the following commodity groups posted lower annual growth rates:  a. Restaurants and Accommodation Services, 9.4 percent; 

b. Transport, 5.2 percent; 

c. Personal Care, and Miscellaneous Goods and Services, 7.9 percent;  Meanwhile, the rest of the commodity groups maintained their previous month’s inflation rates.

Food index in December 2022 accelerated to 13.9 percent, from 13.8 percent in the previous month. In December 2021, the food index was lower, at 1.8 percent. (Table C)

During this period, major contributors to the uptrend in the food index are Rice at 7.3 percent, followed by Vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses at 11.0 percent, and Flour, Bread and other Bakery Products, Pasta Products and other Cereals at 14.2 percent.  

Meanwhile, the following commodities registered lower indices: 

a.    Fish and other Seafood, 19.3 percent;

b.    Sugar, Confectionery and Desserts, 62.1 percent;

c.    Meat and Other Parts of Slaughtered Land Animals, 15.6 percent;

d.    Fruits and Nuts, 18.1 percent;

e.    Ready-made Food and Other Food Products n.e.c., 13.6 percent;

f.    Milk, Other Dairy Products and Eggs, 7.9 percent; and

g.    Oils and Fats, 13.3 percent.
