Funeral and related activities industry group dominates the section in terms of number of establishments

The results of the 2021 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) showed that a total of 89 establishments in the formal sector of the economy were engaged in other service activities. This represents an increase of 15.6 percent from the 77 establishments reported in 2020. (Table A)

In 2021, majority of establishments were engaged in funeral and related activities with 46 establishments (51.7%). Personal services for wellness, except sports activities ranked second with 24 establishments (27.0%), while repair of personal and household goods ranked third with nine (9) establishments (10.1%). (Figure 1 and Table 1)

Funeral and related activities industry group employed the highest number of workers

The total employment in the other service activities section of the MIMAROPA Region was recorded at 475 workers as of 15 November 2021. Of the total, 468 (98.5%) were paid employees, while the rest were working owners and unpaid workers. Compared with the total employment of 356 workers in 2020, the total employment in 2021 registered an increase of 33.4 percent. (Table A and 1)

By industry groups, funeral and related activities employed the highest number of 230 workers (48.4%). This was followed by personal services for wellness, except sports activities with 190 workers (40.0%), and repair of personal and household goods with 32 workers (6.7%). (Figure 2 and Table 1)
 

The average number of workers for the section was recorded at five (5) workers per establishment, which is the same average number of workers per establishment reported in 2020. (Table A)

Among industry groups, personal services for wellness, except sports activities posted the highest average employment of eight (8) workers per establishment. Funeral and related activities followed with an average employment of five (5) workers per establishment. On the other hand, laundry services recorded the lowest average employment of one (1) worker per establishment. (Table 2)

Repair of computers and communications equipment industry group paid the highest average annual compensation per paid employee

The total compensation paid by the establishments engaged in other service activities reached PhP 30.75 million in 2021. This translates to an average annual compensation of PhP 65,705 per paid employee, which indicates a 22.4 percent decrease from the recorded average annual pay of PhP 84,683 per paid employee in 2020. By industry group, employees from repair of computers and communications equipment received the highest average annual compensation of PhP 96,059 per paid employee in 2021. This was followed by laundry services, and personal services for wellness, except sports activities with average annual compensation per paid employee of PhP 87,714 and PhP 68,772, respectively.

Funeral and related activities industry group generated the highest total revenue and total expense

In 2021, the total revenue generated by the section reached PhP 195.38 million, indicating an increase of 57.1 percent from the PhP 124.37 million reported revenue in 2020. Meanwhile, the total expense incurred by the section amounted to PhP 172.29 million in 2021, which represents an increase of 46.8 percent from the reported total expense of PhP 117.37 million in 2020. By industry groups, funeral and related activities had the largest share to total revenue with PhP 104.48 million (53.5%) in 2021. On the contrary, laundry services recorded the least total revenue of PhP 5.70 million (2.9%). (Figure 4 and Table 1)

In terms of expenses, the top spender was the funeral and related activities industry group with PhP 84.49 million. This translates to a 49.0 percent share of the section’s total expenses. Personal services for wellness, except sports activities, and repair of computers and communications equipment came next with incurred total expenses of PhP 52.97 million (30.7%) and PhP 25.69 million (14.9%), respectively. In 2021, the revenue per peso expense ratio of the other service activities section was recorded at 1.13, which reflects an increase of 7.0 percent from the recorded 1.06 revenue per expense ratio in 2020. This indicates that for every peso spent in 2021, the section generated a corresponding revenue of PhP 1.13. (Table A and 2)

By industry group, laundry services registered the highest revenue per peso expense ratio of 1.97. On the other hand, personal services for wellness, except sports activities recorded the least revenue per peso expense ratio of 0.92. (Table 2)
