Religious Affiliation in Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro

Roman Catholic account for 70.3 percent of the household population
Of the 76,876 household population in 2020, 54,022 persons or 70.3 percent reported Roman Catholic, Excluding Catholic Charismatic as their religious affiliation in the municipality of Bongabong. It was followed by Iglesia ni Cristo with 3,991 persons or 5.2 percent, and Church of Christ with 2,945 persons with 3.8 percent. Completing the top ten Religious Affiliations in 2020 in the municipality of Bongabong were Seventh Day Adventist with 2.5 percent, Church of God World Missions in the Philippines with 2.1 percent, Presbyterian Church in the Philippines with 1.4 percent, Church of the Foursquare Gospel in the Philippines, Incorporated with 1.3, Assemblies of God with 1.1 percent, Tribal Religion and Aglipay with 1.0 percent, each. (Figure 1 and Table 1)
Barangay Bukal with the highest proportion of household population that reported Roman Catholic as their religious affiliation
Of the thirty-six barangays in the municipality of Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro. Barangay Bukal posted the highest proportion of Roman Catholics comprising 94.7 percent of the household population. Completing the top ten Barangay with the highest proportion of household population that reported as Roman Catholic as their religious affiliation were as Barangay San Juan with 93.0 percent, Barangay Hagupit with 92.8 percent, Barangay San Isidro with 90.3 percent, Barangay Santa Cruz and Barangay Aplaya with 88.8 percent, each, Barangay Malitbog with 87.4 percent, Barangay Carmundo with 87.0 percent, Barangay Libertad and Barangay Labasan with 85.4 percent, each. However, Barangay Lisap reported as the least number of households population, out of 6,743 there was 2,500 or 37.1 percent with Roman Catholic as their religion. (Table 2 and Table 3)
Barangays with at least 90.0 percent of household population who reported Roman Catholic as their religion
Among the thirty-six barangays in the municipality of Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro, there were four barangays with at least 90.0 percent of household population reported as Roman Catholic as their religious affiliation. These were Barangay Bukal with 94.7 percent, Barangay San Juan with 93.0 percent, Barangay Hagupit with 92.8 percent and Barangay San Isidro with 90.3 percent respectively. (Table 4)
Barangay Luna has the highest proportion of household population with Iglesia ni Cristo as religion
The municipality of Bongabong was able to register 3,991 persons (5.2 percent) who reported Iglesia ni Cristo as their religion. Of the thirty-six barangays in the municipality of Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro. Barangay Luna posted the highest proportion of Iglesia ni Cristo with 19.2 percent as their religion. It was followed by Barangay Orconuma with 14.6 percent, Barangay Ogbot with 14.4 percent, Barangay Hagan with 12.1 percent, and Barangay Dayhagan with 11.5 percent. On the other hand, Barangay Mapang reported as the least number of Iglesia ni Cristo as their religion with 0.1 percent. (Table 5)
Barangay Luna has the highest double-digit proportion of household population with Iglesia ni Cristo as religion
Out of thirty-six Barangays, there were six Barangays with a double-digit proportion of household population who reported Iglesia ni Cristo as their religious affiliation in Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro. Barangay Luna reported the highest double-digit proportion of Iglesia ni Cristo with 19.2 percent as their religion. It was followed by Barangay Orconuma with 14.6 percent, Barangay Ogbot with 14.4 percent, Barangay Hagan with 12.2 percent, Barangay Dayhagan with 11.5 percent and Barangay Sagana with 10.2 percent respectively. Religious Affiliation in the Philippines

The population and housing censuses in the Philippines are conducted on a “de jure” basis, that is, a person is counted in the usual place of residence or the place where the person usually resides. The enumeration of the population and collection of pertinent data in the 2020 CPH referred to all living persons as of 01 May 2020.
For the 2020 CPH, data on the Religious Affiliation of all household members were collected by asking the respondents, “What is ____’s religious affiliation?”.
DEFINITION OF TERMS
Household is a social unit consisting of person or a group of persons who sleep in the same housing unit and have a common arrangement in the preparation and consumption of food.
Household population refers to all persons who are members of the household.
Religious affiliation refers to a particular system of beliefs, attitudes, emotions, and behaviors constituting man’s relationship with the powers and principalities of the universe.
Religion is either defined as: (a) religious or spiritual belief of preference, regardless of whether this belief is represented by an organized group or (b) affiliation with an organized group having specific religious or spiritual tenets.
