
Inflation in Occidental Mindoro decelerated to -1.9 percent in May 2025 from -1.5 percent in April 2025. This is lower than the inflation rate of 9.4 percent in May 2024. Meanwhile, the inflation in MIMAROPA decelerated at 1.1 in May 2025. In May 2024, the inflation rate in the region was 4.6 percent.
Inflation Rate by Commodity Group
In May 2025, seven (7) commodity groups recorded lower inflation rates which included Food and Non- Alcoholic Beverages (-4.4%); Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco (3.5%); Clothing and Footwear (-0.2%); Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Maintenance (4.3%); Health (1.5%); Recreation, Sport and Culture (8.0); and Personal Care and Miscellaneous Goods and Services (-5.8%). Meanwhile, commodity groups that recorded higher inflation rates include Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and other Fuels (-3.9%); Information and Communication (1.0%); and Restaurants and Accommodation Services (17.0%). Transport (4.0%); Education Services (8.0%); and Financial Services (0.0%) remained unchanged in terms of inflation rate compared to May 2025.

Inflation Rate by Food Group
The inflation rate for the food index in the province decelerated to -5.0 percent in May 2025 from -4.3 percent in April 2025. In May 2024, the inflation rate for the food index in the province was recorded at 14.5 percent.
Seven (7) commodities from the Food group had contribution to the downtrend of the food index in May 2024. This indicates lower inflation rates for the following food groups: Cereals and cereal products (-20.8%); Meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals (18.3%); Milk, other dairy products and eggs (-0.1%); Fruits and nuts (5.3%); Vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses (-6.3%); Sugar, confectionery and desserts (-2.2%) and Ready-made food and other food products (4.9%). Meanwhile, Fish and other seafood (4.3%); and Oils and fats (-1.7%); had accelerated annual growth rate from April 2025 to May 2025.

Purchasing Power of the Peso (PPP)
The Purchasing Power of the Peso in Occidental Mindoro in May 2025 declined to Php 0.72 from 0.73 in April 2025. This figure means that a peso in 2018 is only worth 72 centavos in May 2025, while the PPP was registered at Php 0.71 in May 2024. As a result, the amount of goods that can presently be purchased by consumers is lower compared to when the PPP was higher.
